Heavy rain, thunderstorms forecast across Oman: CAA

Muscat – Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has issued a high-level weather alert for Tuesday, as deep convective cloud formations signal the arrival of heavy rainfall across the Sultanate. Latest satellite imagery reveals the development of intense weather cells capable of producing significant downpours, occasional hail, and frequent lightning. These atmospheric conditions are expected to be accompanied by strong downdraft winds, particularly affecting the northern governorates where the density of the clouds is most pronounced. Residents in these areas are advised to prepare for sudden changes in visibility and potential flash flooding in low-lying regions.

The impact of this weather system extends to the coastal environment, with high humidity levels between 30% and 90% fueling the storm’s intensity. While the focus remains on the inland rainfall, maritime conditions are also deteriorating, with the Oman Sea experiencing moderate to rough waves peaking at 2.0 m. Wind speeds are forecast to reach 20 knots, creating hazardous conditions for small vessels. The National Multi-Hazard Early Warning Centre continues to monitor the movement of these convective cells, urging the public to avoid crossing wadis and to adhere strictly to safety guidelines issued by local authorities throughout the duration of the storm.
