Farsi brothers win double gold for Oman in Dubai Jiu-Jitsu championship

Muscat Brothers Abdullah and Mohammed bin Khamis al Farsi lifted Oman’s flag high after an outstanding showing at the Khaled bin Mohammed bin Zayed Jiu-Jitsu Championship, held in NAS sport complex, Dubai from January 24 to 26, featuring elite competitors from leading regional and international academies.

Both brothers clinched gold medals in different categories, extending an impressive run after jointly securing more than 26 medals in 2025 – an achievement that underlines their consistency, discipline and technical excellence.

Speaking to Muscat Daily, Abdullah said the championship is among the most prominent tournaments listed on the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation calendar and is known for its high level of competition, reflecting the rapid development of the sport in the region. He added that he won the gold medal and first place in the Black Belt No-Gi Grappling category (69kg) after three tough bouts against highly ranked and experienced opponents.

Abdullah noted that the victory allowed him to maintain his world No1 ranking in the Black Belt 69kg division, stressing that success in jiu-jitsu is built on dedication rather than chance. “Achievement in jiu-jitsu is the result of patience, precision, endurance and intense focus, both on and off the mat,” he said.

Mohammed also claimed gold in the Purple Belt Professionals category (69kg), confirming his top ranking in his division and highlighting the advanced level reached by Omani athletes in jiu-jitsu.

Abdullah urged Omani youth to engage in sport on a regular basis, noting that jiu-jitsu in particular plays a vital role in building character before producing champions. “I encourage young people to practise sport and choose disciplines that develop both the mind and the body. Jiu-jitsu has taught me patience and discipline, strengthened my focus and helped me handle pressure – qualities we need in daily life before competition,” he said.

He added that the achievement reflects the growing presence of Omani sport on the international stage and confirms the success of ongoing efforts to develop national talent and produce athletes capable of competing and excelling at the highest levels.
