GCC Tyre Market Survey shows 96.55% compliance in Oman

Muscat – The Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion (MoCIIP), through the Directorate General of Standards and Metrology, in cooperation with the GCC  Standardization Organization, has conducted the GCC Tyre Market Survey in Oman.

The survey is part of ongoing efforts to ensure compliance of products bearing the GCC Conformity Mark and to verify that tyres traded across GCC member states meet approved technical regulations.

The survey reflects MoCIIP’s commitment to strengthening market surveillance systems and enhancing the capabilities of national inspection and conformity personnel, reinforcing consumer protection and confidence in local markets.

Shaima bint Khamis al Balushi, Head of the Standards and Metrology Inspection Department, said the survey is a significant step in supporting the ministry’s product safety and quality oversight efforts.

She informed that the survey recorded a compliance rate of 96.55%, based on inspection of 58 tyre samples, with only two cases of non-compliance identified. According to Shaima, the findings demonstrate the effectiveness of existing inspection mechanisms and highlight the pivotal role of the GCC Conformity Mark in ensuring product safety and reliability.

Shaima stressed the importance of conducting random inspection of customs transactions approved through automatic clearance to verify the completeness of required documentation. She also underlined the need to impose penalties on non-compliant companies, strengthen border controls on imported tyres through intensified shipment inspections, and continue joint inspection campaigns with relevant authorities.

She further emphasised the role of consumer awareness initiatives in educating the public on the importance of the GCC Conformity Mark and its role in ensuring the safety and quality of products available in the market.

As part of the survey, a specialised training workshop titled ‘Tyre Technical Regulations and Market Surveillance’ was held in September. The workshop was delivered by Ibrahim al Rahbi of GCC Standardization Organization (GSO) and attended by inspection and conformity teams from across Oman.

The training covered GCC technical regulations for passenger vehicle tyres imported from China, India, Thailand and Taiwan.GCC Tyre Market Survey Oman compliance
