RO3,200 drone contest to elevate visual storytelling in Oman

Muscat – Ibn Firnas Drone Center has announced the launch of Adasat Firnas 2025, a drone photography competition offering prizes of a total of RO3,200 as part of its efforts to nurture local talent and promote innovation in aerial imaging.

The competition aims to develop both creative and technical capabilities among amateur and professional drone operators, while providing a competitive platform to identify emerging talent. It also seeks to encourage the responsible and professional use of drone technology across sectors such as media, tourism and visual documentation, in line with Oman’s ongoing digital transformation agenda.

The contest features two main categories – video and photography. All submissions must be original works produced in 2025 and captured and executed by the participants themselves. Previously published or earlier submitted entries will not be accepted.

In the video category, entries should be between 30 and 45 seconds in length, with basic editing permitted, including the addition of music or voiceover. For the photography category, simple enhancements are allowed, with each participant permitted to submit up to three images.

The organisers said the competition reflects its vision of building a creative drone community and strengthening Oman’s regional presence in aerial photography. Held under the theme ‘A Story between Earth and Sky,’ the initiative aims to highlight the artistic and technical potential of drone imagery in telling compelling visual stories.

The deadline for registration and submissions is December 23; winners set to be announced on December 30. Participants can register via @ibnfirnas.om
