MCSY receives former UFC champion Khabib Nurmagomedov in Muscat

Muscat – Officials from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth held talks with former UFC lightweight champion Khabib Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov during his visit to Oman on Sunday, focusing on potential areas of cooperation in the sports sector and the feasibility of hosting major combat sporting events in the future.

The meeting discussed opportunities to develop partnerships aimed at hosting major sporting events in Oman, in coordination with relevant public and private sector entities. Both sides reviewed a range of ideas and proposals, which will be studied further in the next phase.

Nurmagomedov highlighted Oman’s resources and capabilities, noting the sultanate’s potential to host international-level sporting events. Officials welcomed the proposals and underscored the ministry’s interest in expanding cooperation with global sports figures and organisations.

Nurmagomedov is a former professional mixed martial artist who competed in the lightweight division of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). He is the longest-reigning UFC Lightweight Champion, holding the title from April 2018 to March 2021.

He retired from professional competition with an undefeated record of 29 wins and no losses, and is widely regarded as one of the greatest fighters in the sport’s history.
