ORLANDO, Fla. – Charley Hull went into the swanky new locker room at Lake Nona Golf and Country Club on Tuesday and turned on the hair dryer.
"The players were like, what you doing? Are you English? I was like, honestly I'm froze," said Hull with a laugh.
Florida cold, she said, feels completely different to England cold.
The chilly weather at this week's season-opening Hilton Grand Vacations Tournament of Champions will reach a breaking point on Sunday when the morning temperatures dip below freezing at 28 degrees. Officials will likely have to push tee times back due to frost. Play was originally scheduled to end at 4 p.m. local time on NBC. The high on Sunday is 45 degrees.
Defending champion A Lim Kim was delighted with the forecast.
"I love it," she said laughing. "Better than humidity."
Hull has played one 18-hole round since mid-December due to rough weather back home.
"New Year's I think it was minus six outside and it was frosty and it was bouncy and I went out and played, carried my bag," she said. "I wasn't that cold. I had a couple layers on, like leggings and trousers over top and then a couple layers on and I'm really not this cold because I'm walking and carrying my bag."
Hull said she'd prefer not to think of this season as a fresh start given how well she played in 2025. Currently No. 5 in the world, the Englishwoman finished last year with seven consecutive top-20 finishes, including a victory at the Kroger Queen City Championship and a runner-up finish at the AIG Women's British Open.
Hull noted she doesn't like playing with a lot of layers so she tries to keep them thin.
"Yesterday I had three pairs of pants on," she said. "I bet people were thinking, gosh, she enjoyed Christmas a bit too much."
