LEC Versus just concluded its second super week of the Winter regular split. With the League of Legends league getting two guest teams, it was a fun time to introduce two of the ERLS’s more high-profile teams from last year.
However, both teams didn’t start off too hot, with the lowest win rates on the ladder, aside from a few other teams already part of the franchise structure.
However, this changed in Week 2 when Los Ratones, one of the most hyped teams with its fanbase, managed to bag itself a 2-1 week, allowing them to climb over franchise teams, beating them out in the process.
LEC teams didn’t scrim Los Ratones
In a recap video of the week, Los Ratones’ Head Coach Jakob “YamatoCannon” Mebdi jumped on his YouTube channel, posting a video discussing the previous week. The team is, by and large, chuffed at what they did.
Yet the interesting thing comes from the video, which details the LEC practice around 1:32.
“I’m happy to see the impact of the practice because the practice was very unique. You know what happened to us [in] the LEC, is that if teams don’t think you are good practice, then they are going to prioritize other teams.
“It’s like we were left in the lurch, and we were only scrimming KCB in the week, and all the LEC teams were scrimming against each other. Obviously, when you play against us, you scrim against very unique champions, and with where our level was at, teams just prioritize other teams.”
It turns out that most LEC teams did not scrim against Los Ratones that week, suggesting there was not much value out of practicing with the Rats. The main scrim partner for the week was Karmine Corp Blue, the other guest team in the league, and the sister team of the otherwise popular LEC team KC.
It implies that neither guest team was getting much practice from the franchise teams in the league. By and large, due to the quality of the games, they can give the mainstay teams.
But, the practice seems to have paid off. Los Ratones managed the clutch factor and kept themselves in two games this week, and won 2-1. Meanwhile, KC Blue didn’t win any this week, but kept fighting in their games, refusing to go down against Movistar Koi despite a 20k gold deficit at one point.
Yamato did say Los Ratones’ scrim schedule for this week’s practice is looking more plump. So, it seems like the LEC teams are certainly taking them seriously. He says it around 2:30 in the video below.
Maybe even KCB can get some more practice too if they can exploit key weaknesses in teams with massive leads. After all, if a guest team in the LEC can do that against Europe’s finest, then the LPL and LCK will absolutely do that to you come First Stand on March 16-22
