A new patch for the PC version of Monster Hunter Wilds has landed, but it appears to just be setting the table for a more significant performance fix. Those who load the game up again will be met with a 2GB update that targets the game’s impact on hardware, as well as deeper options.
Capcom has added a new “CPU” tab, allowing players to tinker with even more settings. This should help with those on older processors, as the game is relatively CPU-bound.
Another part of improving the game’s relationship with the heart of your PC is that “shader warming processes” are being tinkered with. Capcom states that this will be done less outside of shader compilation to take the load off your CPU.
Shader warming is when the game acquires everything needed before further compilation happens. Frequently calling for this can put strain on the system, impacting performance.
Monster Hunter Wilds new patch is either 2GB or 31GB
If you’re using the high-resolution texture pack, expect an additional 31GB to your 2GB update. Capcom has adjusted the Monster Hunter Wilds visual addon to “reduce VRAM usage and overall package size.”
Notably, Capcom has fixed the issue raised by a Reddit user a couple of weeks ago. That issue found that in the hub areas, performance was being hit because Wilds would constantly check for downloadable content for the in-game merchant.
This quickly spiralled into a frenzy where some people took it to mean that performance in general was going to be fixed via this problem. However, it was soon found that it really did only impact the hub areas. All isn’t lost, though, as there is yet another patch coming next month.
There’s always a bigger patch

February 18th’s Monster Hunter Wilds patch will see Capcom finally try to tackle PC performance properly.
One example given is that they’re going to be adding in Level of Detail (LOD) systems under the hood. Basically, the further you are from something, the lower the game will make that object’s fidelity.
It seems Capcom is trying to get Monster Hunter Wilds back into the good graces of players. After Worlds and Rise, both positively received for their overhauling of the series, Wilds currently sits with over 300,000 reviews on Steam and has a Mixed overall rating. Looking at the reviews, though, it seems as though the lack of difficulty and content in the game might be a sticking point with some players.
I’ve been waiting for Wilds to get its major update, or expansion that, well, expands the endgame. I burnt out on Rise’s base game before Sunbreak and never truly dug all the way in like I wanted to. I also did the same with Worlds. It just doesn’t seem like it’s on the horizon any time soon, so I guess I’m waiting on patches to “fix” the game.
