Things to do this week in London

If you’re looking for something to do this weekend, here are 11 of the best activities, dining, and drinking spots in the capital.

1. Try seasonal dishes and a fresh wine list at new opening TOWN

Town restaurant
‘The seasonal menu is all about top notch, British produce’ (Picture: Supplied)

By Rob Buckhaven

With more hype than a Taylor Swift release, Steve Parle’s new restaurant had its work cut out. Décor-wise, think bougie, midcentury modern American diner with a glossy green kitchen counter as their statement piece. The cracking cocktail list is curated by Kevin Armstrong of Satan’s Whiskers (best bar in the world for 2025), divided into small-serve Martinis, classics, chargers and wine-based. Town’s ambiance is warm and engaging, the service slick and sensitive, the menu utterly toothsome and the wine list, fresh and exploratory (with fun names like ‘second cheapest red’ and ‘the only rosé you’ll ever need’). No wonder, it’s put together by La Trompette’s Ex-Head of Wine, Donald Edwards.

The seasonal menu is all about top notch, British produce, showcased by quirky snacks like deep-fried sage leaves with hot heather honey, and the startlingly good potato sourdough with Town house gravy. Starters, including soft scoops of roasted bone marrow on Kashmiri Saffron Risotto, and their flagship, South-Indian-spiced Cod and Clams Curry and ghee flatbread for the main are standouts. A quick Martini digestif and we roll out of there, decadently sated and determined do it all again. And I mean, soon.

From £60 per head. 26-29 Drury Lane, London, WC2B 5RL. Open 12-3pm Mon-Sun; dinner Mon-Sat, 5-10pm. Book here.

2. Get incredible food and entertainement at the first pub to open on The King’s Road in over 100 years

London has its fair share of pubs. (How many is too many? Let me know in this week’s poll above!) I’m not a regular pub goer but I can make an exception for the first new pub to open on the King’s Road in over 100 years. It’s in a beautiful Grade II listed Georgian building, and the food is just as elegant as the location.

Start with oysters – refreshing and enjoyably salty. Then onto the mains and the roasted sea bass is fall apart soft. For dessert, the sticky toffee pudding is unmissable, piping hot and sweet in that can’t-get-enough-way. Cosy winter roasts are also in full swing at The Trafalgar, served from 11am, featuring British wagyu roast beef, Suffolk red pork belly and more.

And don’t miss their roster of entertainment at The Havannah Room, with comedy nights and live ‘sing along’ piano sessions. History has been made.

Small dishes from £7, mains from £18. 224-226 King’s Rd, Chelsea, SW3 5UA. Book here.

3. Indulge in tasty Middle Eastern dishes at Yasmin

The Out-Back BBQ

By Courtney Pochin

‘Those flatbreads look FIT,’ my friend proclaims as food is placed down in front of us at Yasmin. And she’s not wrong. Chunky, charred flatbreads are a staple at the intimate Middle Eastern spot nestled on top of 1 Warwick Street (a private members’ house), but it’s the dip selection that steals the show.

Highlights include a creamy whipped sheep’s cheese, with hot honey and isot biber, which packs a warming chilli kick and an earthy, smoky flavour. But my personal favourite is the parsnip hummus topped with juicy golden raisins and a rich drizzle of olive oil – it’s hummus, but not as you know it. If you need somewhere to catch up with friends over a delicious Palmaráe Gin cocktail (or mocktail if you’re doing Dry Jan) and some delectable nibbles this is the place to go. T

here’s even a terrace (Yasmin Ever After) if you’re into dining al fresco – but you’d have to be pretty brave to venture out there right now…

Cocktails from £16; flatbreads, £4; dips, £6-£9. 1 Warwick St, Soho, W1B 5LR. Book here.

4. Taste some of the best Vegan dishes in London this January

Ixchel x Holy Carrot
We just couldn’t resist these (Picture: Supplied)

Ixchel x Holy Carrot

By Patrycja Zaras

Best for: vegan innovation with maximum flavour

While London isn’t short on great tacos, Ixchel’s collaboration with plant-based staple Holy Carrot still earns a spot on our list. Their Grilled Oyster Mushroom Taco delivers smoky richness and chew, layered with roasted koji mole for subtle sweetness. Light yet satisfying, it’s an ideal relaxed dinner option, lifted by the restaurant’s standout interiors. Treat yourself to Kendall Jenner’s 818 tequila and settle in.

£16 for two. Only 20 available, every Tuesday. Until 10 Feb. Book here

Crust Bros x Mildred’s

By Anna Staddon

Best for: if you can’t decide between Italian or Mexican for dinner

Crust Bros’ Veganuary special pizza, created in partnership with Mildreds, is a bold take on plant-based food. It’s essentially a re-imagined burrito, with a smoky chipotle sauce, vegan mozzarella, spiced ‘chorizo’, and charred corn, all topped with avocado cream. I’ve got to say, even the biggest meat lovers would be convinced by this vegan chorizo. Along with Crust Bros’ ‘build your own’ pizza menu with classic Neapolitan flavours that are easily customised to be plant-based, this restaurant is a refreshing and convenient option for Veganuary.

Vegan special, £14.90. Available at all Crust Bros locations until 9 Feb. Book here.

Pivot’s vegan roast

By Izzie Jones

Best for: if you really miss a decent roast dinner

Missing the very non-vegan Yorkshire puddings from your Sunday roast? Covent Garden’s eclectic Britpop-styled Pivot bar is home to a banging vegan roast that doesn’t skimp on the trimmings. The sharing roast for four is reminiscent of a home-cooked roast dinner, encouraging everyone to get stuck in. The vegan yorkies are fluffy marvels and the potatoes nice and crispy. The centrepiece, a rustic celeriac, puy lentil and chestnut mushroom pie is no veggie afterthought, stuffed with savoury, umami flavours. My only advice? Don’t be afraid to ask for more!

£99 vegan sharing roast for 4, unlimited sides for 90 minutes. A single course is £30. Available until 31 Jan. Book here

5. Get a Hunger Games inspired meal at Roe

Got tickets to see the Hunger Games: On Stage? Canary Wharf restaurant Roe (from Fallow chefs Jack Croft and Will Murray) has a menu fit for the Capitol.

Start with Rations from the Cornucopia, including a reimagining of Fallow’s famous mushroom parfait, and sweet, sticky ‘mockingjay’ (stuffed chicken) wings. Follow with a feast of braised short rib beef and, once victorious, a nostalgic serve of spiced rice pudding. £60pp. We volunteer as tribute!

6. Make the most of the throwback deal at Gunpowder, to celebrate their 10th birthday

Want another throwback? To celebrate a decade of cult favourite Indian restaurant Gunpowder, they’re going all guns blazing, featuring their original menu and pricing from when they first opened their doors. So get their chilli cheese toast for £3 and Maa’s Kashmiri lamb chops for under £10. Available all January.

7. Challenge yourself and get a free bagel out of it, courtesy of B Bagel

Calling all runners! B Bagel is challenging you to get a PB this month… if you do, you get a free bagel. All you have to do is share a screenshot of the run from their running app, including proof it’s a PB, with B Bagel on social media. Happy running!

8. Get steak frites for just £15 at Elliot’s in Hackney

Hackney favourite Elliot’s is introducing a new lunchtime deal. Get a Highland bavette steak, served with crisp frites, pepper sauce and béarnaise butter for £15 every Friday from 12-3pm. The perfect end of week treat. Book here

9. Bag yourself a free pint at BOXHALL City

Thursdays just got better! BOXHALL City is pouring 1,000 free pints of Pravha for Londoners, every single week throughout January, available from 5pm. But that’s not all, they’ve also got a £10 lunch deal running Monday to Friday 12-3pm all month. Find out more

10. Feel like a new person at Slomo festival

Slomo returns to King’s Cross this week (15 Jan-22 Feb), and it’s all about feeling new and refreshed. It has two wood-fired saunas, three cold plunge pools, an ice bath, and a roaring fire… a little escape for the usually gloomy month of January. And an hour in the sauna only costs £12. Find out more.

11. Watch comedy play Oh, Mary! after its successful Broadway run

OH, MARY! Mason Alexander Park (Mary Todd Lincoln) and Dino Fetscher (Mary's Teacher).
There’s no historical accuracy here… (Picture: Manuel Harlan)

★★★★

By Dylan Mangan

Fans of historical accuracy should look away now. Oh, Mary! writer Cole Escola said they did no research when developing this play about the weeks leading up to the assassination of Abraham Lincoln, and that is made entirely clear from the get go. Make no mistake though, the play is all the better for it. Imagine a world where Mary Todd Lincoln is a self-obsessed alcoholic desperate to reignite her career as a cabaret star, only to be thwarted at every opportunity by her closeted husband and leader of the free world, Abraham.

Having brought the house down on Broadway, Oh Mary! is one of the must-see shows currently on the West End and delivers on the hype. Running for one act and about 80 minutes, the true star of the show is Mason Alexander Park, whose energy and timing brought the house down and have marked them as a performer to follow well into the future. Expect a laugh a minute and plenty of twists, especially when John Wilkes Booth turns up at Mary’s door.

Tickets from £45. Trafalgar Theatre. Until 25 April. Book here.
