Sohar – Jindal Steel Sohar has set a new production milestone at its 220-ton Electric Arc Furnace (EAF), tapping over 235,112 tons of liquid steel in a single month, projecting the plant’s annual output to over 2.5 million tons of cast steel.
Originally supplied by Danieli in 2014, the EAF in Sohar operates with an average charge mix of 61% Hot Direct Reduced Iron (DRI), 37% Cold DRI, and 2% Hot Briquetted Iron (HBI), achieving an exceptional productivity of 324 tons/hour, with a power consumption of 493 kWh/t (for good quality billets).
The furnace recently underwent an upgrade with the Danieli Q-MELT adaptive process control system, enabling an equipment availability rate of 96.5%, including all weekly shutdowns, downtimes, and process delays.
