First cold wave of the season to sweep across Oman

Muscat – Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has issued a weather alert confirming that the Sultanate will be impacted by the season’s first cold wave beginning on Friday, December 19, 2025. This meteorological shift is driven by the arrival of a cold air mass that is expected to cause a significant and noticeable drop in temperatures across most governorates. Data released by the National Multi-Hazard Early Warning Centre indicates that while the low-pressure system’s centre is projected to move away by Saturday, the cooling effect will intensify.

Comparative forecasts highlight a sharp decline in temperatures between Wednesday and Saturday morning. In Muscat, temperatures are expected to fall from 23°C to 17°C, while more dramatic decreases will be felt in the mountainous Saiq region, where mercury levels will plunge from 6°C to a near-freezing 2°C. Coastal and interior cities will also see marked changes; Suhar is forecast to drop from 21°C to 14°C, and Ibri will decrease from 18°C to 10°C. Furthermore, temperatures in Haima are expected to fall from 17°C to 11°C, while Khasab will see a decline from 20°C to 14°C. Residents throughout the Sultanate are advised to prepare for this sudden transition to colder conditions.
