Capcom recently revealed Street Fighter 6’s sales for its third fiscal year ending March 2026, which means we now have the total number of copies sold as of December 2025. At this point, Street Fighter 6 has sold over 6.36 million copies all over the world.
This puts Street Fighter 6 at a faster pace than Street Fighter 5, which has sold a total of 7.9 million copies. The comparison has brought up a sore spot for the FGC, who believe Capcom was lazy and slow with the new game’s DLC, possibly because of the game’s sales.
FGC feels Street Fighter 6 lacks quality DLC
Street Fighter 6 is currently in Year 3, which is set to have four DLC fighters:
| Sagat | August 5, 2025 |
| C. Viper | October 15, 2025 |
| Alex | March 17, 2026 |
| Ingrid | Late Spring 2026 |
As you can see, the release dates are a bit spread out. This would mean just four DLC fighters in a year, which is not enough for the FGC.
Many players believe Capcom is not bothering with DLC because the game is selling well without it. A sort of “why bother” sorta thing.
Since the game came out, there’ve been only 12 DLC fighters (including the two that haven’t dropped yet). This is admittedly not a lot of new fighters for a three-year span. When combined with a general lack of new content and updates, this leaves players unimpressed.
| SF6 DLC Character | Release Date |
|---|---|
| Rashid | July 24, 2023 |
| A.K.I. | September 27, 2023 |
| Ed | February 27, 2024 |
| Akuma | May 22, 2024 |
| M. Bison | June 26, 2024 |
| Terry | September 24, 2024 |
| Mai | February 5, 2025 |
| Elena | June 4, 2025 |
| Sagat | August 5, 2025 |
| C. Viper | October 15, 2025 |
| Alex | March 17, 2026 |
| Ingrid | Late Spring 2026 |
Street Fighter 6 is still extremely popular in Japan, especially if you take a look at the esports scene. However, the game is not nearly as popular in North America and Europe. You could tell from fan sentiment that Capcom’s announcement of a pay-per-view model for upcoming esports tournaments had gamers in an uproar. They were not willing to pay like the fans over in Japan, that’s for sure.
With players feeling the game is losing money and viewership overseas, they are wondering why Capcom is not more worried about retaining players through more frequent updates. Is a new fighter every quarter enough to keep casual players interested?
Gamers are increasingly demanding more from live service games these days. Highguard is even promising new core content every month in 2026. It’s just another instance of the FGC feeling neglected compared to other developers and other gaming genres.
