Rising star Melissa Barrera is reportedly set to take center stage in a high-profile theatrical project. The actor is expected to step into the role of Rose in the Broadway musical parody “Titanique,” marking a major milestone in her career as she transitions from film and television to the New York stage.

Variety has reported that Melissa Barrera, the Scream and In the Heights star, is heading straight for Broadway. She is reportedly set to make her Main Stem debut at the St. James Theatre. The limited engagement will run for 16 weeks, with previews kicking off on March 26, an official opening on April 12, and a scheduled close on July 12.

The production reimagines Titanic, retelling the legendary romance with a heavy dose of camp and comedy. It filters the story through the music catalog and the fictional lens of Celine Dion. Barrera takes on Rose, the role famously played on screen by Kate Winslet, as the musical stitches together Dion’s biggest hits like “My Heart Will Go On,” “Because You Loved Me,” and “All by Myself.”

The production also brings notable names to the stage. Co-creator Marla Mindelle is set to return as Celine Dion, the same role she helped shape alongside writers Tye Blue and Constantine Rousouli. Meanwhile, four-time Emmy winner Jim Parsons steps into Ruth DeWitt Bukater’s heels, the character originally played on film by Frances Fisher.

The lineup also includes Grammy nominee Deborah Cox, taking on the role of Molly Brown, a part made famous on screen by Kathy Bates.

Barrera’s Broadway debut lands right in the middle of a packed career run. She recently showed up in Your Monster and The Copenhagen Test, sharing the screen with Simu Liu. She is also gearing up for director Renny Harlin’s action thriller Black Tides, along with the film adaptation of The Collaboration.
