Ahead of the decisive sitting of the Senate over amendments to the Electoral Act, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan (PDP, Kogi Central) has said Nigerians deserve elections that inspire trust, strengthen our unity and reflect the will of the people.
She said this in a post on her Facebook page in the early hours of Tuesday.
Akpoti-Udughan said, “As I step into the Senate chamber today, I carry with me the hopes and expectations of millions of Nigerians who yearn for stronger democratic safeguards enshrined in our laws.
“Real-time electronic transmission of election results is a critical step toward deepening transparency, preserving the sanctity of the people’s mandate, and restoring public confidence in our electoral process.
“Our democracy must continue to evolve with systems that ensure every vote truly counts and every voice is faithfully represented.
“Nigeria deserves elections that inspire trust, strengthen unity, and reflect the genuine will of the people.”
The debate over whether or not to include “real time” in the electronic transfer of election results has generated intense public debate nationwide.
Several civil society groups had taken to the streets in protest over a decision by the Senate to remove “Real Time” transfer from the amendment made to Section 60 (3) of the Electoral Act Amendment Bill.
