Jennifer Garner has made a startling admission about an on-set incident that left even her co-stars momentarily stunned.
Speaking to press during a panel for her Apple TV+ series The Last Thing He Told Me, the actor revealed she once ‘bit a piece’ of a co-star’s ear during a fight scene while filming the show.
Garner, who stars as Hannah Hall in the mystery series, was recalling a clip shown during the panel featuring a physical confrontation when she explained the backstory behind her familiarity with stunt-heavy scenes.
‘That performer Sal [in the clip], I worked with him on The Kingdom and he had to pull me from a ceiling,’ she said. ‘
She continued, recalling the stunt work on the 2007 film: ‘Pete Berg, who was the director, told him to try to kill me. We did not have a lot of choreography, and he told me to do anything I could to survive,’ she recalled.
‘He did, and I did, and I ended up scrambling onto his back. I bit his ear, and we have a picture of him missing a chunk of ear, because we were not kidding.’
She went on to explain that a similar intensity carried over into her current show. ‘That scene [in The Last Thing He Told Me] was our second day of shooting and the crew were like, “Can you be careful with her please,” and I was like, “Everyone no, back off, I have a score to settle here.”‘
When co-star Nicolaj Coster-Waldau asked her to clarify exactly what had happened, Garner didn’t hesitate. ‘I bit a piece of his ear off like Mike Tyson,’ she said, drawing laughter from the room.
She finished the anecdote with a jokey warning: ‘Don’t make me mad. I seem nice.’
The Last Thing He Told Me is an American mystery thriller based on Laura Dave’s best-selling novel and follows Hannah as she forms an unexpected bond with her stepdaughter while searching for her missing husband.
Garner also discussed her character’s motivations: ‘She has prepared everything for every eventuality, all to keep Bailey safe.
‘So watching as the penny drops and Hannah really realizes the kind of danger they’re in, watching those actions fall into place, and watching her take one step after the other and include Bailey in this grand escape is, to me, really, really gratifying.’
The series premiered in April 2023 and was renewed in March 2024, with its second season set to debut on Apple TV+ on February 20, 2026.
