KANO — Former National Chairman of the All Progressive Congress, APC, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, has said he is not ruling out the possibility of reconciliation with the national leader of the New Nigeria People’s Party, NNPP, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso.

The former two-term governor, who spoke in an interview with BBC, monitored by our correspondent, said that as a Muslim, he could not shut the door against reconciliation, describing Kwankwaso as a brother and long-time political associate.

Ganduje’s comment comes barely days after Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State defected from the NNPP to the ruling party, APC.

According to him, “As a Muslim, is there a person you would say you don’t want to be reconciled with? It’s politics. So we hope that in the future we can reconcile with him completely because we have been in politics together and we are brothers.”

He added, “There is no doubt about that. We are happy with this and we are excited. He (the governor) is also happy that he has come.

“The party leadership are all temporary. Because by the end of February, the party leadership will be decided from the ward, local government, state, zone, to the national level. When the time comes, we will see how every party has their people in it (represented in the composition).

“Before we had our differences but now we are together. We have buried our differences. The task before us now is how to bring about the development of Kano state, achieving success in this party.

“If he succeeds, we succeed. If we succeed, he succeeds. If we fail, he fails. If we fail, he fails. So whoever agrees with this. You see, we must help the government succeed because if it succeeds, we succeed.”

On an alleged 60% – 40% sharing formula speculated to be issued to the governor, Ganduje said, “It is the national party that comes out with this kind of arrangement but until now we have anything of such. Received any written evidence of such arrangement? But all this will not cause any trouble.

“Well, we did not recognise anything of such. We only knew that the government was done for the sake of the people so that progress could be achieved. And every governor will come and do his own thing and go. Then someone else will come and continue. But this right that he is saying, maybe when they were together one hundred percent with him, maybe there is something that he was enjoying that they took from him and that is now gone. But from our end, there is no right that was brought to us. All we know is a government has been brought and a government that will work for the poor,” Ganduje however stated.
