Gunmen abduct over 100 worshippers in three Kaduna churches

Gunmen have again abducted a pregnant woman, Mrs Mary Jesulayomi at Ayede Community in Akure North council area of Ondo State.

Recall that few days ago unknown Gunmen abducted a proprietress of a primary school, Mrs Oladeinde Tomilola and shot three other persons at ilu- Abo community,in the same council area of the state.

They stormed the her residence, located at Liberty Avenue, Iluabo area, at about 8:00pm shot at her vehicle and whisked her away to an unknown destination.

Her whereabouts remained unknown as at the time of filling in this report.

However, the pregnant woman was reportedly abducted in the community on Tuesday night.

It was gathered that the hoodlums stormed the community, which is a few meters away from the Federal Secretariat complex , Akure, and started shooting sporadically into the air, causing pandemonium in the agarian community.

An old man, in the community, Pa Ogunleye Mese narrated that the hoodlums entered ind attacked the community at about 7.pm

Mse said the gunmen attempted to abduct him and his wife but both of them managed to escape but the pregnant woman who came to buy something from their shop, was not lucky as she was whisked.

 ” They came here yesterday evening, and they started shooting sporadically into the air , they came to my house here, they wanted to kidnap me but I managed to escape but they initially abducted my wife and a pregnant woman who came to buy something in our shop.

“My wife too managed to escape but they took the pregnant woman away. “

Also, a  local said that “A kidnap case occurred on Tuesday around 7:40pm at Ayede Community near Alagbaka Extension Akure where one Mrs Mary Jesulayomi (pregnant woman) was captured and taken away.

“Mrs Ogunleye Mese, an 85 year old woman was also kidnapped but was later released.

” Her husband, a 90 year old baba, Pa Ogunleye Mese suffered injury in the process”.

Contacted, the state police command spokesperson, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, confirmed the abduction of the pregnant woman.

Jimoh said that ” A kidnap case occurred yesterday around 7.40pm at Ayede Community near Alagbaka Extension Akure where one Mrs Mary Jesulayomi was captured and taken away;Mrs Ogunleye Mese.

” An 85- year-old woman was also kidnapped but was later released, while her husband, a 90-year-old Baba, Pa Ogunleye Mese suffered injury in the process.”

” The command has deployed tactical teams to the scene and efforts are ongoing towards the rescue of the victim and apprehension of the perpetrators of the crime..

According to him “Upon receipt of the report, the command has deployed tactical teams to the scene.

“Efforts are ongoing towards rescuing the victim and arrest the perpetrators of the crime.

Recall that the kidnappers who trailed their victim, a business man, John Ofuduwa to the community, shit him in the head and later picked the school Proprietress instead.

The proprietress, Mrs Oladeinde Tomilola, who is a neighbour and about to enter her compound, was abducted by the attackers who could not abducted the business man after he was shot.

Two other persons, Victoria, and her daughter, Victoria Olorunfemi, aged 11 years, who were passing through the area, also sustained varying degrees of injuries as a result of the gunshots.

Residents of the community staged a protest against the abduction and shooting of three persons in the community by the bandits..

They barricaded the highway and brought vehicular movement to a standstill as commercial drivers, commuters, and motorists were stranded for hours.

The protesters decried the persistent insecurity and the absence of adequate security presence in the council area.

They called on the state government and security agencies to establish a permanent military checkpoint in the community

The Commander, 32 Brigade Artillery of the Nigerian Army, Brig. Gen. Justin Ifeanyi, who joined the Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal during the assessment tour of the community, assured that all necessary support would be provided to ensure the apprehension of the attackers and the rescue of the victim

The state police command said that the existing security frameworks have been reinforced with additional tactical and intelligence-driven measures to ensure the swift arrest of the perpetrators and to forestall any future occurrence.

Oba Falae, a former Secretary to the Government of the Federation SGF, who is the traditional ruler of ilu- Abo community condemned the criminal act and pledged his full support to the Police in ensuring that the perpetrators are identified and brought to justice.

 He assured the Commissioner that the palace would mobilize and make available community vigilante groups to complement ongoing police efforts, while also encouraging residents to remain vigilant and cooperate fully with security agencies to rid the area of criminal elements.

Lawal however, assured the general public that intensive efforts are ongoing, in close collaboration with the Nigerian Army, the Department of State Services (DSS), and other security agencies, as well as relevant non-state actors, to ensure the safe rescue of the abducted victim and the arrest and prosecution of all those responsible for the attack.
