The White Lotus fans are starting to resemble the followers of puzzlebox mystery shows like Severance and Lost with the level of messageboard theorising that now goes on.

If it’s not making cases for who dies each season, it’s predicting where exactly the roving show could visit next.

But that we already know: like Emily Cooper before it, the HBO hit is going to France. Whether that’s Paris, France, we don’t yet know – but the capital is likely too obvious a bet.

The show’s fans have been mulling over a locale in the south of France, at a renowned pearly-white luxury hotel on the seafront of Cap d’Antibes.

Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc is the lavish home of French elegance, which formed the basis of F Scott Fitzgerald’s Tender is the Night.

A previous general manager summed up the hotel’s secret appeal as: ‘When on vacation, the rich like to pay maharajah prices to live like boy scouts.’ Now does that sound like The White Lotus or what?

Surrounded by a 22-acre park of pines, the hotel is also where Lionel Richie’s daughter Sofia tied the knot to her fellow nepo babe husband Elliot Grainge.

This summer the hotel was home to Miles Teller, Zac Efron and Nina Dobrev, all of whom attended the nuptials of crypto billionaire Brad Garlinghouse.

So could it also be home to the next cast of The White Lotus?

One fan, who spotted that from mid-May to the end of September the hotel is unavailable for any new bookings, thinks so.

‘Apparently Mike White was seen staying here and this hotel is unavailable all summer,’ @Environmental_Text69 wrote on Reddit

It’s a compelling theory, which left several convinced the snooping might come up good. Plus, it wouldn’t be the first time the hotel has been used as a filming location, after the sandy beaches served as the backdrop to a James Bond scene.

However, other fans suggested that the hugely popular hotel might just be fully booked, particularly given that every summer, the stars arrive for Cannes Film Festival, which is close enough to nip to by speedboat.

@SpiritedTechnician63 wrote in response: ‘They wouldn’t film in the summer here, it’s high season. It would be cheaper to film exteriors and recreate the interiors in a studio than to rent this place for a summer.’

Other fellow fans were similarly dubious about whether The White Lotus would be able to have free rein of the hotel for the entire summer, let alone whether an establishment of this prestige would want to invite the circus of TV production in.

‘This hotel is renowned for exclusivity and prestige and therefore it is typical not to see availability…’ wrote @Litee4. ‘I would highly doubt it would close down for a TV show. It would probably do them more harm than good.’

Perhaps Mike White can head on over to the Three Valleys for our first Cold Lotus in the snow? It’s time!

Metro contacted the Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc for comment.

The White Lotus season 4 will return on HBO.
