Looking to restock on food and drink after everyone has tucked into their Christmas dinners?
Then you might be in luck – supermarkets have revealed their holiday opening times for Boxing Day 2025.
For shoppers looking for seasonal deals or just picking up extra supplies, shops re-opening the day after Christmas could be a life-saver.
But branches will have different opening hours on the day – so check your local store’s specific timings.

Which supermarkets will be closed on Boxing Day 2025?
Some shops will be entirely closed to give staff a well-deserved break for the festive season on December 26.
Aldi has said it will not open any branches on Boxing Day. Rebecca Heley, a communications director at the German-owned retailer, said: ‘Christmas is a special time, and we want to ensure all of our colleagues have the opportunity to relax and enjoy it with their loved ones. That’s why all Aldi stores will be closed on Boxing Day this year.’
Lidl will also remain closed for Boxing Day, but a spokesperson has added that ‘customers are encouraged to check their local store’s opening hours on the online store finder or through the Lidl Plus app’.
M&S stores will be shut on December 26 too. Jayne Wall, operations director for M&S, has said that ‘Christmas at M&S is very special’ and the company is grateful for its employees’ work in the festive season.
While not open to customers, some M&S colleagues will be working to reset stock for re-opening on December 27.
Waitrose has said that a small number of stores will be open on Boxing Day for Deliveroo, Uber Eats and Just Eat orders – but most will be shut.
Which supermarkets are open on Boxing Day 2025?
Tesco, Asda and Sainsbury’s will all be open for business on Boxing Day, although their operating hours will be slightly different than normal.
Tesco
You can check the opening times for your local stores here. Some smaller Tesco locations could have different hours.
- Tesco stores: 9am to 6pm
- Tesco Express: 9am to 7pm
Morrisons
The chain is set to open at relatively regular timings. The Morrisons website recommends planning ‘festive shopping trips around our Christmas opening hours’, while still checking ‘exact times for your nearest Morrisons using our Store Finder’.
- Morrisons stores in England and Wales: 9am to 6pm
- Morrisons stores in Scotland: 8.30am to 6.30pm
Sainsbury’s
Sainsbury’s supermarkets will partially open on Boxing Day, but some smaller Sainsbury’s Local locations could have alternate hours.
- Sainsbury’s stores: 9am to 6pm
Co-op
The Co-op supermarket chain is set to open on Boxing Day.
- Co-op stores: 10am to 7pm
- Co-op convenience stores: 9am to 7pm
The business stated: ‘During bank holidays and special times of year some of our stores may open later and close earlier than normal.’
Asda
The supermarket chain will open on Boxing Day, but with reduced hours.
