Following the recent return of The Traitors and Agatha Christie’s Seven Dials being released on Netflix, viewers can be forgiven for thinking the last thing we need right now is another murder mystery.

However, for fans of the genre who love nothing more than snuggling up on the sofa to solve a deathly crime, Netflix could have your next binge watch sorted.

Silent Truth, a Japanese mystery series inspired by Yokozeki Dai’s award-winning novel, was released on the streaming platform earlier this week.

Following Tobina Junichi (Takeuchi Ryoma), the detective digs into a murder connected to his childhood 23 years ago.

Taking to Reddit, niji-no-megami said it ‘exceeded my expectations’, as Due0420 called it ‘intriguing’.

Initiative-6231 also confessed that they ‘could not stop’ watching, describing the genre and cast as ‘perfect’.

Their only complaint seemed to be that only one episode was being released per week.

Meanwhile, a reviewer for Midgard Times said the show had a ‘promising start to a great murder mystery’.

‘The plot is sensational, involving murder, a weapon, and a former lover,’ they said in their review.

‘These are the key ingredients that make any murder drama very gripping. What adds more to all this is the 23-year-old’s past connection to the elementary school. Who would have thought of the possible outcome of events?

‘So when it comes to the storyline, I assure you the first episode looks promising. It doesn’t drag much and gives us enough to keep us waiting for the next ones.’

Only in the 6th grade, Tobina and his classmates, includingIwamoto Makiko (Inoue Mao), buried a gun used in a crime under a cherry blossom tree in 2003.

However, despite it being a secret they could not share with anyone, the friends eventually grew apart and went their separate ways.

Now as a detective, Junichi gets transferred to the police station in his hometown where he takes on a murder case.

After reuniting with his first love Makiko, she is the suspect of the murder case he is investigating.

Through the investigation, Junichi discovers the weapon used in the current murder case is the gun that they buried 23 years ago as he reunites with his former friends who has shared the secret.

The show’s release comes after another Netflix thriller with a ‘plot twist you’ll never see coming’ topped the streaming platform’s chart.

His & Hers, which released on Netflix on January 8, has so far earned rave reviews.

Silent Truth is available to watch on Netflix.
