David Platt’s (Jack P Shepherd) worst nightmare comes true when Shona Platt’s (Julia Goulding) risky pregnancy takes a heart-breaking turn in Coronation Street.
Having a baby can bring a couple closer together, but it has tested David and Shona’s relationship close to breaking point. The heartbreaking discovery that their unborn child has a cancerous tumour was bad enough, but then they learned that the only surgery that could help the baby may put Shona’s life at risk.
Whilst David has been plagued with doubts over their decision not to terminate the pregnancy, Shona refuses to acknowledge the risks of surgery and is determined to carry to term.
This led to her decision to keep their family and friends in the dark about the tumour. But David just couldn’t bury his head in the sand, and ended up letting the cat out of the bag under pressure.
Whilst Shona was furious, the two have managed to reconcile and support each other. But David’s worst fears remain, and it looks like they’re about to come true…
They say there’s calm before the storm, and that’s certainly true for the Platts. The biggest problem David’s got to worry about over the festive period is accidentally moaning about Shona’s antenatal class… to the teacher of Shona’s antenatal class.
Or making sure they all finish dinner in time watch the Queen’s speech – and by the Queen’s speech, I mean Gail’s (Helen Worth) Christmas message to the family.
