Muscat – In a move aimed at promoting innovation and improving energy-use efficiency across the public and private sectors, the Ministry of Energy and Minerals has launched the Energy Efficiency Excellence Award supporting Oman’s transition towards environmental and economic sustainability in line with Vision 2040.
The ministry said the award seeks to encourage government and private entities to adopt innovative and effective solutions that enhance energy efficiency and reduce consumption. Eligible government entities include ministries, authorities, institutions and municipalities, as well as public hospitals and government universities. The private sector category covers universities, companies and establishments operating across industrial, commercial, residential and service sectors.
The award will be presented in two main categories – Best Project in the Government Sector and Best Project in the Private Sector – recognising outstanding initiatives that demonstrate excellence and innovation in the field of energy efficiency.
According to the ministry, participating projects must align with the national objectives of Vision 2040 for sustainable development and contribute towards achieving net-zero targets. Projects should have been fully implemented in previous years or be operational for at least six months, with verified performance data available for assessment.
Submitted projects will undergo a comprehensive technical and environmental evaluation focusing on the efficiency and sustainability of implemented solutions. Evaluation criteria include the use of energy-efficient air-conditioning systems, building thermal insulation, efficient lighting, and environmentally friendly appliances and equipment. The assessment will also consider the integration of renewable energy sources, smart control systems, water-use efficiency measures, as well as the attainment of recognised local or international environmental certifications.
The Ministry of Energy and Minerals has invited all eligible entities to participate, stressing that the award serves as a national platform to support innovation in energy efficiency and strengthen partnerships across sectors, contributing to a more sustainable future for the sultanate.
