Katherine Ryan’s two-month-old baby Holland accompanied her to a recent ‘serious’ cosmetic procedure in York, the comedian has revealed.
The 43-year-old stand up never beats around the bush when it comes to her bodily procedures, and she’s now revealed a recent under-the-knife experience that came two months after giving birth to her fourth child, Holland Juliette.
While Katherine is keeping the exact details of the procedure under wraps as she hopes it will turn into a ‘little docuseries’ and she doesn’t want to spoil it, she described her encounter with an ‘incredible’ surgeon in York.
‘This is controversial but he is my ethnicity,’ Katherine said on her Telling Everybody Everything podcast, noting that ‘a lot of Asian or Persian doctors who have this idea of this aesthetic’ which she didn’t want.
‘Take Dr. Simon Ourian, for example. He is the Beverley Hills injectables skin guy,’ Katherine said. ‘He doesn’t do surgery, that I know of, but he’s the guy who appears sometimes in The Kardashians, and he does their injections.
‘He’s really talented, but I went to see him probably ten years ago… And I felt like I walked out of there looking a little more Kim Kardashian.’
However, Katherine would rather accentuate her own features, rather than try and morph her face into someone else’s.
‘We need to stick as closely as possible to what mother nature intended. I have really delicate features – I have a long face, I have a really narrow jawline,’ she said.
‘I was not ever meant to have the Kylie Jenner heart-shaped jawline and these big Persian eyes. That was never going to work for me.
‘This guy in York is like of a British, Irish background, his beautiful wife is Irish, and I want to look like her. So I was like, I think this guy gets me… I think he gets what I’m going for.’
The Duchess star noted the importance of choosing a surgeon based on studying the experience and transformation of their previous clients.
‘He did some procedures on one of my friends who is so beautiful and youngish to be getting surgery, and I just loved his before and after gallery,’ Katherine explained.
The mum-of-four continued: ‘It really matters, I think, to know someone real and to be able to see how their face moves, talk to them.
‘You knew what they looked like before, you know what they look like after. That, to me, historically, has always been the push to get surgery.’
The surgery, which took three and a half hours, was also attended by Holland, who Katherine welcomed with her Canadian husband Bobby Kootstra.
‘I elected to take the baby with me because she just turned eight weeks that day. I’m still breastfeeding her, obviously, and I will be for a long time,’ she said.
‘You can’t breastfeed immediately after surgery, but I could obviously spend the night with her before and breastfeed her then, pump milk for the maternity nurse that I had, and then breastfeed her shortly thereafter and go home with her.’
The Your Face Or Mine star continued: ‘I was thinking to myself after I got the surgery – which, wait till you see it, is pretty serious surgery – I was like, Katherine Ryan, what is your damage?
‘Like, what exactly the f*** is wrong with you? Why have you brought a baby to surgery?
‘But then I thought, up and down this country, worldwide every day, we are giving women C-sections and then saying, sweet, go off and keep these twins alive.
‘Women are expected to do so much – physically, emotionally, mentally. A C-section is a way more serious procedure than what I got.
‘They cut through, what is it, seven layers of tissue and fat and muscle, and then they give you a small person to keep alive.
‘Even if you don’t have a C section, if you give birth vaginally, there are a lot of women who have haemorrhoids, they have tears, they’re in pain, they’re exhausted.
‘So what’s this elective cosmetic procedure and looking after a newborn? It ain’t nothing but a G thing is my official answer.’
Confirming she’s in ‘zero pain’, Katherine explained that while others value secrecy around the topic, she will always be ‘honest’ about her cosmetic experiences.
‘Can you imagine me doing something and not telling you? And that’s why it baffles me when people are like, Katherine Ryan’s had a nose job. No, if I had, I would tell you,’ she said.
Katherine was equally as candid after the birth of Holland in October, as she revealed that her vagina was ‘bubbling’ at one point during childbirth, meaning the baby was crowning.
The comedian already shares son Fred, four, and daughter Fenna, two, with childhood sweetheart Bobby, who she reunited with years after the pair dated as teenagers.
Her first daughter Violet, 16, is from a previous relationship.
