Kim Tate (Claire King) has suffered a devastating loss on Emmerdale – and it’s not something she’s going to forgive and forget about any time soon.

Kim had just unveiled her mega surprise to her old friend Lydia (Karen Blick) – a personal mini concert at the Woolpack from none other than Jason Donovan – when she got troubling news. Vanessa (Michelle Hardwick) had just driven past some woods on Kim’s land and saw people with shotguns behaving recklessly. It seemed that an illegal shoot was in progress.

Heading off to investigate without telling anyone, Kim rode over to the woods on her precious horse, Ice. It wasn’t long before things went badly wrong, though. We learned later that Ice had got his leg tangled in a snare and Kim fell to the ground, badly injuring her own leg in the process.

For a while it looked like Kim might lose her leg as a result of her injuries, but in Tuesday (December 16)’s episode she was making a good recovery in hospital. Unfortunately the horse was so badly hurt that he had to be put to sleep.

Joe Tate (Ned Porteous) made the decision about the horse, on Vanessa’s advice, but Kim can’t forgive him. As Gabby (Rosie Bentham), Dawn (Olivia Bromley) and Lydia sat at her bedside, Joe killing her horse was all Kim could think about.

She was distraught that Ice would have been wondering where she was and she couldn’t be with him in his final moments. She insisted that she would deal with the crematorium herself and didn’t want Joe or anyone else getting involved.

Kim had no time for Dawn or Gabby and she can barely look at Joe. The only person she feels she can rely on is Lydia Dingle, her best friend and the woman Kim insisted was ‘like family.’

This is ripping Lydia apart, because her and Sam (James Hooton)’s actions were the direct cause of Kim’s accident in the first place.

Disgruntled at Kim and Joe and wanting to earn some much-needed cash, Sam had organised the illegal shoot. Lydia’s role was to provide the catering and keep Kim distracted so she didn’t find out.

Lydia was also the one who suggested that the participants could snare rabbits, so the snare that got Ice into deadly danger was only there because of her.

To be fair to Lydia she came up with the snare idea to stop the entitled idiots who’d paid for the shoot taking part in illegal and cruel hare coursing – something Sam was adamant shouldn’t be happening.

All of this has left Lydia feeling incredibly guilty that Kim’s family is falling apart because of something she and Sam did. She told Sam she wants to come clean with Kim and tell her exactly what happened.

If Kim discovered that the only person she feels she can rely on has been the cause of her misery, she’s going to feel doubly betrayed – but Lydia can’t live with keeping the secret.
