Reader is disgraced by employment tribunal...

A job applicant turned down for a role as town clerk because he did not have the desired ten years’ experience has been awarded almost £3,000 for his ‘hurt feelings’ (Metro paper, Tue).

An employment tribunal agreed with James Sheehy, 29, that it was unfair of Lymington and Pennington Town Council to impose such a condition and that it amounted to indirect age discrimination.

If everyone who was upset at not getting the job they wanted got compensation, there would be no money left in the world! I’m so angry public money was wasted on this. Kate, via email

Do young ‘at-home wokrers’ need to go back into the office?

Your report (Metro paper, Mon) details the campaign for a tea break of half an hour for office workers.

I worked in a civil service office for nearly 40 years from 1972 and rarely took a tea break away from my desk.

If the idea is to tempt young home-workers back to the office it won’t work, as they would be traumatised by the amount of work that has piled up after half an hour away from their desk. Alison, London

‘Donald Trump is threatening to invade Greenland because Norway didn’t award him the Nobel Peace prize’ says reader

Donald Trump is threatening to invade Greenland because Norway didn’t award him the Nobel Peace prize (Metro, Tue). Has he considered contacting Lymington and Pennington Town Council to put in a claim for hurt feelings? Dec, Essex

Does Rita Ora need to stay out of the Metro crossword?

14789877 UK pop star Rita Ora reveals the surprising gift she took home from Australia
This reader says Rita Ora keeps appearing in the Metro crossword (Picture: Supplied)

I have been a big fan of the Metro crossword for a while now, yet I always seem to see ‘Rita Ora’ as an answer. As much as I appreciate her music and the Kosovo representation, it baffles me. Is this an inside joke? I think you should include different artists for greater diversity and less Rita Ora-related frustration. Anoop, Edinburgh

Another reader questions the same thing…

I mean this in the nicest possible way but are you endorsed by Rita Ora?

The highlight of my day is your daily crossword on the bus yet I am currently lacking the variety and cognitive stimulation I look forward to on my short, yet pleasant, Metro-filled journey.

Can you at least be so kind as to explain why Rita? I’m as big a fan of the 2017 classic ‘Anywhere’ as the next person but
I never thought I’d see the day I’d be haunted by it. I think Lynyrd ‘Free Bird’ Skynyrd deserves some Metro crossword fame. Catherine, Edinburgh

Metro responds!

Dear Anoop and Catherine, expect less Rita in the future but whether our compiler can make ‘Skynyrd’ fit is another matter… – Ed

HS2 should open for a charity bike ride, says reader

Re the completion of the ten-mile HS2 Chiltern tunnel (Metro, Mon). It would be great if it were to be opened for a few days before becoming fully operative to allow charity bike rides. I think many cyclists would happily donate £5/£10 for the thrill of cycling the tunnel. Phil Caldicott, Sutton Coldfield

‘The entitlement that lets you disregard other people is all too common today’, says reader

I can’t believe nobody has commented about the woman chatting with a friend in a café who was handed a note by an older customer saying her voice was too loud (Metro paper, Fri). She graciously says she saw the ‘funny side’. There isn’t one to see.

The entitlement that lets you disregard other people is all too common today. Her response to the complaint demonstrates this all too well. Bob, County Durham
