A fresh face has joined Jeff Hafley’s remade staff in Miami as the Dolphins have hired Ladell Betts as the team’s new running backs coach — replacing former longtime assistant in Miami, Eric Studesville. Studesville survived multiple coaching changes — first joining Miami in 2017 and coaching under Adam Gase, Brian Flores and Mike McDaniel — but will now head elsewhere following a major shakeup within Miami’s staff.

Betts — a former 2002 second round pick of the Washington Redskins — was a standout running back at the University of Iowa for four seasons from 1998 through 2001. His 3,686 career rushing yards still places him second all time for the Hawkeyes. He played eight seasons in Washington before finishing his NFL career with one season in New Orleans.

Betts began his coaching career in the high school ranks, but rejoined the Iowa Hawkeyes as their running backs coach from 2021 to 2024. Last season, he coached the New York Giants running backs room, helping rookie Cam Skattebo adjust to the professional game.
