PSG and AS Monaco have both qualified for the Champions League playoff rounds. Les Parisiens have only drawn at home to Newcastle United (1-1), which made them slip out of the Top 8. It means that the Champions League winners will play a two-legged playoff next month against one of the teams in 21st or 22nd place, namely AS Monaco and Qarabag.
Last year, PSG were drawn against a Ligue 1 side – Brest – on their way to their maiden title. Will history repeat itself? The playoffs draw takes place on Friday. If PSG were to draw Qarabag, Monaco would inevitably face 12th-placed Newcastle United. The winners of those two playoff rounds will lock horns with two major European clubs – Barcelona and Chelsea – in the Round of 16 tie.
