The All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Gassol Local Government Area of Taraba State has received no fewer than 1,000 defectors from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The defectors were led by Acho Righteous and Abubakar Surajo, formerly of the ADC and PDP, respectively.
Speaking at the occasion, the former 2023 ADC candidate for the Gassol I State Assembly, Acho Righteous, noted that he was thrilled with the gains of the reforms of the President Bola Tinubu administration and the movement of the Taraba State Governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas, into the APC.
According to him, “With over 1,000 supporters from the Sabon-Gida Ward of Gassol Local Government Area, we have decided to leave the ADC for the APC.
He further noted that the encouragement he received from Seyi Tinubu, as well as the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, in his capacity as a youth leader, fast-tracked his movement into the party.
“With the ongoing electronic registration, all my supporters have also commenced this process to ensure we become major stakeholders in our party.”
Speaking on the reforms, Righteous noted that the Student Loan Scheme anchored by NELFUND is a game-changer that has enabled youths to access education without worrying about tuition fees.
He also noted that the administration of Gov. Agbu Kefas has started delivering dividends to the state’s citizens, adding that he and his supporters want to be part of the success story by pitching their tent with the APC.
He encouraged politicians in other parties to join the moving train, noting that Taraba is now “one under the APC.”
Speaking earlier, the APC Gassol Local Government Chairman, Ibrahim Adamu, commended the decampees for “coming back home” and assured them of equal opportunities.
He also encouraged residents of the state to register as members of the APC, noting that Gassol has traditionally been a support base for the party and is already leading the state in the number of new members registered during the ongoing e-registration exercise.
Acho Righteous and his supporters also paid courtesy visits to the palace of the District Head of Kwararafa, Hakimi Samaila Sallah; a Village Head, Isaac Ibrahim; and the Ter Tiv Dan-Anacha, Daniel Mbaterem.
