Caleb and Ruby Miligan (William Ash and Beth Cordingly) headed for a walk in the Yorkshire countryside in tonight’s Emmerdale, but things took a very unexpected turn when they spotted Bear Wolf (Joshua Richards) in the distance.
Bear made a return to the village at the start of this month, but the only two people who know this are Paddy Kirk (Dominic Brunt) and Dylan Penders (Fred Kettle).
The duo are keeping Bear’s whereabouts a secret because of his poor mental state, and the fact they don’t want the police to know he murdered Ray Walters (Joe Absolom). As far as Paddy’s concerned, Bear needs to hide away until he can confidently reel off their cover story.
To Paddy’s horror, when he went into Bear’s room yesterday evening, he found the windows wide open and Bear missing.
The old man had managed to walk all the way back to Celia Daniels’ (Jaye Griffiths) farm, where he was made to work as a slave for months.
As morning broke, Bear headed through some fields, but what was on his mind wasn’t confirmed until later on in the episode.
While on a walk, Caleb and Ruby found Bear staring at a tree in the middle of a field. They approached trying to mask their panic, because they were under the impression this was the first time Bear had been spotted since disappearing in the summer.
While Caleb contacted Paddy and then the police, Ruby got chatting to Bear and wondered what he was up to. He is still deeply traumatised and confused so what he was saying wasn’t clear, but Ruby’s ears pricked up when Bear mentioned Anya.
Anya was another slave on the farm, who died as a result of Celia and Ray failing to get her any medication for her injuries and ill health. She was buried on Butler’s Farm, so Bear was on the field looking for her grave.
Anya was introduced to us when she was found in a depot van. While Caleb viewed her as a problem that could seriously impact his business, Ruby saw her as a vulnerable young woman in need of help, and wanted to give that to her.
The character disappeared from Mill Cottage, leaving Ruby incredibly worried about her. The fact Bear mentioned her name left Ruby hopeful she might find some answers about where Anya went when she left her house.

Bear headed to hospital once Paddy arrived which meant Ruby couldn’t get anymore information from him. Instead, she searched the records at the depot and learnt the van Anya was in had been in England for longer than she thought.
It meant Anya got in the truck with the intention of running away from someone – Ruby just didn’t know who.
With Bear in a dark place, now is not the time for Ruby to start asking questions about his friend.
She’s a determined woman though – is she going to find out the truth?
