Muscat – The Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Ministry of Education, marked the International Day of Education on January 24 under the theme “The power of youth in co-creating education”, reaffirming the central role of young people in strengthening education systems and supporting sustainable development.
The ministry said Oman reflects the theme through a range of national initiatives and policies that place youth at the core of educational and development planning. This approach is evident in the participation of young people in shaping Oman Vision 2040, underscoring confidence in their capabilities and contributions to the country’s future.
Oman has also recorded progress in international youth indicators. In the 2023 Youth Development Index, the Sultanate advanced to 33rd place globally, climbing 19 positions, reflecting sustained efforts to empower young people and expand their participation across sectors, particularly education.
As part of reforms aligned with labour market needs, the Ministry of Education has introduced technical, vocational and technological education pathways at the secondary level. These tracks aim to enhance students’ practical skills and improve their preparedness for future employment opportunities.
The ministry also supports the participation of Omani youth in international platforms, including the Unesco World Youth Forum, to strengthen their exposure to global educational dialogue and exchange of experiences.
These efforts complement initiatives led by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth, notably the Youth Ambassadors Project and the Youth Excellence Award, which focus on developing skills, leadership and community engagement among young people.
The ministry said Oman’s observance of the International Day of Education reflects its continued commitment to youth empowerment and to strengthening their role as active partners in shaping education and building a knowledge-based future driven by innovation.
