Population grows 1.7% to 5.36mn in 2025

Muscat – Oman’s population reached 5,359,557 at the end of December 2025, marking an annual increase of 1.7% compared to December 2024, according to population statistics released by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).

The figures showed that the number of Omani nationals stood at 3,039,348, while expatriates totalled 2,320,209. Omanis accounted for 56.7% of the population, with expatriates making up 43.3%. The total population at the end of December 2024 was 5,268,072.

By governorate, Muscat recorded the highest population, rising from 1,498,521 at the end of December 2024 to 1,532,234 at the end of December 2025, an increase of 2.2%. Expatriates accounted for 936,383 residents, while Omanis numbered 595,851.

North Batinah followed with a population of 940,999, up from 925,163 a year earlier, registering a growth of 1.7%. South Batinah recorded 584,658 residents, compared with 566,771 at the end of 2024, reflecting a growth of 3.2%.

Dhofar’s population increased marginally – 0.6% – to 532,941, while Dakhliyah rose 1.7% to 569,887. South Sharqiyah recorded a population of 375,213, up 1.5%, while North Sharqiyah remained stable at 321,434.

Dhahirah recorded 246,819 residents, an increase of 1%, while Musandam’s population rose 1.7% to 56,078. Al Wusta recorded the fastest growth rate at 4%, with its population increasing to 63,698. Buraimi was the only governorate to record a slight decline, falling 0.2% to 135,596.

The data highlighted continued population growth across all except one governorate, with the overall nationality composition remaining broadly stable over the year.
