Since the news that women aren’t big fans of reverse cowgirl, we’ve been wondering what sex position elicits the same reaction for men.

Is there such a move in the bedroom that women can’t get enough of — but men feel pretty ‘meh’ about?

According to Reddit, there are a few contenders.

The classic 69 lost points because women ‘forget’ to do their part (who can blame us?), while doggy style lacks the romance that some men crave.

But there was one surprising sex position that received a fair few votes on Reddit to top the ‘least favourite’ chart for guys: cowgirl.

Women say they like this sex position because they ‘enjoy controlling the pace’ this way, and say it makes them feel ‘so sexy and confident’.

It’s also a position recommended by menopause experts at LloydsPharmacy Online Doctor because it ‘allows for control over speed, intensity, angle, and depth which can be helpful to those with physical discomfort or experiencing dryness’.

And while there’s no denying that some men can’t get enough of cowgirl, why are others so unimpressed with women hopping on the saddle?

It all comes down to the bend of your appendage — as well as technique.

One guy explained his penis has a ‘downward curve’ which makes face-to-face positions like cowgirl really tricky and it’s ‘shattered his confidence’.

‘Cowgirl always feels just a little like she might break my d**k,’ another added. ‘But that’s just me.’

‘My penis gets… very very hard,’ wrote a third. ‘Whenever me and my giirlfriend decide to do cowgirl it becomes a problem because I need my penis to be perpendicular to my body… otherwise it [feels] too tight.’

Others said it needs to be done just so. ‘When [they’re] on top, grinding [their] hips forwards and backwards just hurts the penis – it feels like you are looking for reverse and are getting ever more frustrated,’ he said.

Someone else said ‘I actually don’t like it when she rides, it does very little for me,’ and another admitted ‘it’s my most “eh” situation’.

That’s some pretty damning evidence, despite cowgirl getting 401,100 internet searches in 2025, showing it’s still a classic even with its drawbacks.

It’s also the most popular position for residents in High Wycombe and Ipswich, but that doesn’t mean it’ works for everyone’s one size fits all.

Women's most hated sex position men say is 'sexy as hell'

Reverse cowgirl doesn’t exactly have us ladies screaming ‘yee-haw’, with hundreds of women on Reddit agreeing it’s their least favourite way to have sex.

‘The angle doesn’t do anything for me and staring at my partner’s legs and feet isn’t my favourite view,’ says one woman.

‘I really dislike reverse cowgirl,’ another shares. ‘It’s like getting poked in the wrong direction. Super uncomfortable and the view isn’t great.’

Someone else adds: ‘I hate this one. It’s so uncomfortable… plus staring at feet, plus feeling awkward about my a**hole pointed at him.’

Cate Campbell, BACP accredited sex therapist and co-host of The Real Sex Education podcast, tells Metro this isn’t exactly surprising.

‘Some women find this position a complete turn off because it makes them feel self-conscious, especially as they usually have no eye contact with their partner,’ she explains.

‘Having their back to their partner is a major issue for some who may say they feel a bit used, particularly when they don’t experience much pleasure from the position.

‘Others are also put off by horror stories about the injuries to men that are said to occur in this position, usually when the woman leans forward to steady herself or rest.’

‘Sex positions are subjective’

Sexologist Gigi Engle explains that the quick up and down motion of cowgirl for men with really curved penises can be painful if women are going straight up and down, rather than leaning forward.

‘Women sliding up and down the body can make it work better for some guys,’ she says.

Gigi also adds that ‘not every sex position works for everyone, and that doesn’t mean there’s anything wrong with you or that the sex isn’t good.

‘Sex positions are really subjective, if you don’t like cowgirl that’s completely fine.’

Dr Laura Vowels, sex and relationships expert, previously told Metro that being candid about what feels good is the ultimate recipe for pleasurable sex.

‘With any sexual partner you have, even if you’ve only recently met them, be completely honest about what turns you on and get to know their desires, too,’ she explained.

‘This is perhaps even more applicable when you’re having sex with someone for the first time because you haven’t had the time to sexually explore with them and find out what they like.

‘Effective communication and honesty can help ensure even first-time encounters are enjoyable for all parties involved. Don’t be afraid to tell your sexual partners to change or stop what they’re doing if it doesn’t feel good, and encourage them to tell you too.

‘Honesty builds trust and will allow you to have fun and ensure the other person is too.’
