A non-league footballer has been arrested on suspicion of assault and suspended by his club after an incident during a match on Saturday.

Trearddur Bay Football Club, who play in the third tier in Wales, have suspended Tom Taylor with ‘immediate effect’ after he appeared to elbow a Porthmadog player in the face.

Footage circulating on social media, taken from the sidelines by a fan, appears to show Taylor throw an elbow at an opponent while the players were waiting for a penalty to be taken during Saturday’s Ardal North West League match at The Beach stadium in Gwynedd.

‘Absolutely disgusting from Trearddur Bay, Tom Taylor should get banned for life, disgrace,’ James Roberts posted on X.

Asked whether the player was punished, he added: ‘Nothing happened. The fans showed the vid the the ref but he couldn’t do anything about it because it was too late.’

Trearddur Bay released a statement on Sunday saying they had suspended Taylor and confirmed the incident was ‘subject to a police investigation’.

‘Trearddur Bay FC wish to confirm that it has suspended Tom Taylor from immediate effect following an incident between TBFC and Porthmadog FC yesterday,’ the statement read.
