Ibadan — Unidentified gunmen have attacked Aqua Triton Company in Ogunmakin, near Ibadan, Oyo State, killing a police officer and abducting a Chinese expatriate, the Oyo State Police Command has confirmed.

The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, described the incident, which occurred on Saturday, as a coordinated, commando-style assault on the company’s premises.

“There was an attack at Aqua Triton Company in Ogunmakin, where yet-to-be-identified gunmen stormed the facility in a commando-style operation,” Olayinka said.

He added that security personnel on duty engaged the assailants. “One police officer tragically died while repelling the attack, injuring some of the assailants, and the Chinese expatriate principal was abducted,” he said.

The Oyo State Commissioner of Police, CP Femi Haruna, was immediately briefed and directed the Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations to lead the Anti-Kidnapping Squad and other tactical teams to the scene.

“Security operatives have commenced an intensive bush-combing operation across the area and its environs to ensure the safe release of the abducted expatriate,” Olayinka said.

He added that a comprehensive investigation has been launched to determine the circumstances of the attack and bring the perpetrators to justice.

“The bush-combing operation is ongoing, and a full investigation has been launched to secure the victim’s release and apprehend those responsible,” the police spokesperson said.

Residents and workers in the area have been reassured that additional security measures have been put in place to restore calm. The police urged members of the public to provide any information that could aid ongoing operations.
