Emmerdale fans suss what Laurel is hiding – and what she got rid of

Emmerdale fans have taken to social media to speculate just what Laurel Thomas (Charlotte Bellamy) is hiding in the aftermath of Ray Walters’ (Joe Absolom) murder.

Ray’s death was confirmed at the start of last week, when someone pulled his body across a field and later dumped it in the back of a depot van.

Yesterday, DS Walsh and her team arrived to further investigate the claims about Celia Daniels (Jaye Griffiths) and Ray.

As DC Stewart began questioning Robert and Victoria Sugden (Ryan Hawley and Isabel Hodgins), Walsh was at the depot searching for evidence that confirmed drugs were being moved through the premises.

As Caleb Miligan (William Ash) watched the police turn his business upside down, Walsh opened a van and discovered Ray’s body inside.

The first person who faced questioning from her was Jai Sharma (Chris Bisson), who was driving the van last week. It really didn’t look good for Jai, but he tried his best to tell Caleb and Walsh that he definitely isn’t a killer.

It didn’t take long for news about Ray’s murder to reach other members of the village. Billy Fletcher (Jay Kontzle) entered the café and updated Marlon Dingle’s (Mark Charnock) family, but didn’t realise Ray’s lover Laurel was behind him.

Laurel told Nicola King (Nicola Wheeler) later in the day that she’ll be fine when it comes to processing this huge twist, but Nicola didn’t believe her. She then told son Arthur (Alfie Clarke) about Ray, and the young man had a look on his face that left us a tiny bit suspicious.

Towards the end of the episode, Caleb and Jai continued to speculate as to who killed Ray and placed his body in the van. We then saw Laurel at the back of The Hide. She had gloves on, and was placing Ray’s red bag into a bin.

Following the scenes, fans of the ITV soap took to social media to share their theories over what Laurel is doing. For some of our Metro Soap readers, they believe she is trying to cover up something Arthur has done.

Courtney Bonnick said on our Facebook page: ‘Yeah she’s covering up Arthur or hers murder of Ray.’

Patricia Haigh believes that Laurel is ‘covering up for Arthur who was protecting her when Ray became vicious towards Laurel and refused to accept it was over’.

Amid the theories that Arthur is somehow linked to Ray’s murder, audience members also think that Laurel is the guilty one – but is this kind-hearted character really capable of committing this crime after having her heart broken?

We’re yet to find out exactly what happened to Ray and who killed him, but Emmerdale boss Laura Shaw has promised we will get out answers soon.

‘Following the discovery of Ray’s body, villagers’ secrets will come out as the mystery surrounding Ray’s death is finally solved’, she explained.

‘Before the end of January, a special week will flash back to the night of the murder, revealing which of the multiple suspects is responsible for Ray’s demise.’
