Sam Thompson has revealed he’s set to undergo a vocal cord surgery that will leave him unable to speak.
The 33-year-old TV personality opened up on the latest episode of his Staying Relevant podcast, which he co-hosts alongside Pete Wicks.
The conversation initially revolved around festive catch-ups before naturally turning to health concerns.
Pete, 37, disclosed that he has a medical appointment later this month following a fall at home in December, adding to previous issues he has spoken about regarding his eyesight.
That admission prompted Sam to quip: ‘That’s two men who are going for surgery this year.’
Pete teased that Sam was preparing for a music career, suggesting the surgery was part of a bigger announcement. Sam laughingly shut that idea down before confirming the reality of the situation
‘Yeah, I genuinely am,’ Sam explained. ‘I’ve got a cyst on my vocal chords. I’m having that taken out, which is going to be mad because it means I have three days of vocal rest.’
Vocal cord cysts are benign lesions that can lead to hoarseness and voice strain.
They commonly affect people who rely heavily on their voices, including singers, broadcasters, and professional speakers. The cysts develop when mucus-producing glands in the throat become blocked.
Patients are advised not to speak at all for the first three days after surgery to allow the vocal cords to heal properly.
The enforced silence is likely to be a challenge for Sam, who is known for his energetic, chatty presence on the podcast.
But at least he won’t have to go through the difficult recovery alone, as -after being open about struggling since finding himself single again in the New Year – he recently revealed he is now dating DJ and model Talitha Balinska.
She made a brief appearance in one of his Instagram videos several weeks ago, which fans dubbed a ‘soft launch,’ and Sam then shared a cosy photo with his new girlfriend as they enjoyed a romantic meal.
Posted on his Insta Story, the pic showed the glam pair in a dark setting, Talitha placing an arm around him as Sam smiled.
It’s believed Sam and Talitha were set up by his friend and former Made in Chelsea co-star Reza Amiri-Garroussi, two years after first meeting when Talitha modelled for their sunglasses brand, Dinelli.
Speaking excitedly on an episode of his Staying Relevant podcast, Sam said: ‘I’ve got a girlfriend. I’ve got a girlfriend!’
Pete joked: ‘We’ve lost him again to the dark powers of a woman.’
Discussing the moment Sam asked Talitha to make things official, the TV personality revealed: ‘Mate, it was just super relaxed. It was so boring, really, but that’s kind of how I wanted it to be.
‘We just went for dinner, and I was like, “I really like you.” And I just went, “I’d love to be your boyfriend.” I don’t know why I’m panicking more now!’
He continued sweetly: ‘Yeah, I just said, “Look, I really, really like you, and you make me feel really… comfortable. I feel like I can be myself around you. I don’t want to be dating anyone else.
‘I’m 33; I wouldn’t be dating someone this amount of time if I didn’t think it had legs to last. So, will you be my girlfriend?” And she said, “Yes.” And so I said, “Great”.’
