The impact that The Night Manager had when the first season came out in 2016 was profound.
TV audiences were instantly spellbound by the mesmerising BBC thriller, a tale inspired by the book of the same name by author John le Carré.
Hugh Laurie’s terrifying villain Richard Roper was evil incarnate, while Tom Hiddleston’s performance as hotel night manager-turned-secret agent Jonathan Pine prompted calls for him to become the next James Bond.
Another member of the star-studded cast who made a big impression was Noah Jupe, the 10-year-old actor who played Daniel Roper, Richard’s son.
Noah has reprised his role a decade later, having since starred in films including A Quiet Place, Ford v Ferrari and the Oscar contender Hamnet.
While attending the London premiere of The Night Manager season two, Metro had the chance to speak to him about the extraordinarily unique experience he’s had, returning to a character as an adult that he first played as a child.
Agreeing that he’s had an ‘extremely unique experience’, Noah admitted that he’s ‘not particularly a fan of doing multiple seasons or films’, as you never know what different opportunities could arise in the future.
However, The Night Manager was a different story, considering it ‘inspired a lot of his career’.
‘Working with the actors I got to work with, doing the scenes I got to do. The whole experience was eye-opening to me,’ he shared.
‘So to come back, play a character that sort of started it all off for me, 10 years down the line with all the same people, it was amazing. It was a bit of a pinch-me moment. It’s filled with such nostalgia. Really special.’
Noah’s first scene in The Night Manager season two saw him reunite with Tom, 44, in a very tense exchange between the two characters.
In season one, they met when the team that Jonathan was working with set up a ruse to have Daniel kidnapped.
When Jonathan supposedly rescued Daniel, this allowed him to infiltrate Richard’s inner circle and gain the arms dealer’s trust.
Noah found it ‘really special’ to reunite with Tom, acknowledging that the Marvel actor ‘kind of looks the same’, while he ‘obviously looks very different’.
‘[Tom] was like, “Jesus, man. I can tell how long it’s been from how much you’ve grown,”‘ he recalled.
‘Getting to do more mature stuff with him, to be an actor with a lot more experience now and to come in and work with him on a different level, and to develop our characters further in a more mature way – it was really exciting.’
Following the release of The Night Manager season two, Noah has a jam-packed year ahead of him.
In addition to playing Hamlet in the film Hamnet – which is currently being discussed as a major Oscars frontrunner for this year’s awards season – he stars in the upcoming Hugh Jackman film The Death of Robin Hood.
From March until June, he’ll also be playing Romeo opposite Stranger Things star Sadie Sink as Juliet at the Harold Pinter Theatre in London.
Speaking to E! News about working with Sadie, 23, he said: ‘We met for a read through and then did that little shoot together for the poster.
‘We’ve sort of been talking and nervously excited about the big journey that we’re about to go on together. I have massive respect for her, and I think it’s going to be really special.’
