Admit it. We all love a good soap blooper – and EastEnders has certainly had its fair share. Now, Eve Unwin-Panesar (Heather Peace) takes her place in this dubious Hall of Fame…
While the dark gripping storylines of Albert Square don’t exactly leave its residents eager to crack a smile, there are plenty of hilarious moments behind the camera that have both cast and viewers rolling on the floor in hysterics.
Who could forget Jo Joyner’s infamous ‘How’s Adam?’ blunder? During the 30th anniversary live episode in 2015, she mixed up the name of the character Ian Beale with the name of his actor, Adam Woodyatt.
The incident itself was mildly amusing, but the way Jo broke character, her eyes bulging in fear and panic as she realised her mistake had just been witnessed by the entire nation? Telly gold.
Then there’s Max Branning’s retch. No, I’m not talking about the sound the women of Walford make when the sleazy geezer tries to charm them into having yet another affair.
I’m talking about the 2010 live episode, where Max was supposed to be sick after his son fell from a roof. Short on time, actor Jake Wood was caught on camera putting his fingers down his throat to simulate the retching sound. Whoops!
One of my personal favourites has to be Ronnie Mitchell’s accidental shoplifting. Actress Samantha Womack confessed that during a live EastEnders scene, her character was meant to pick up a paint stripper and pay for it.
However, Womack completely forgot the all-important payment part and walked out of the store still holding the money, unintentionally making her character look like a brazen thief! To be fair, it’s not the worst thing Ronnie’s done…
Out of all these cherished soap fumbles, a brand new blooper featuring has just taken top spot.
Heather Peace revealed a behind-the-scenes outtake featuring her character Eve Unwin and criminal bad boy Ravi Gulati (Aaron Thiara). The two have always had a complicated relationship after Ravi disobeyed Nish Panesar’s (Navin Chowdhry) order to kill Eve in the woods and let her go, leading to tensions, violence, and betrayal.
Nugget’s steroid abuse and subsequent hospitalisation forced them to reach an uneasy truce. But after watching this outtake, you’ll never look at Ravi and Eve in the same way again.
Sharing an emotional moment in hospital, Eve buries the hatchet with Ravi. ‘Whatever happens, I reckon we’re quits now. I will be forever grateful.’ It’s an emotional moment where two longtime rivals finally put their enmity aside for the sake of their family… but the moment is ruined when an actor portraying the nurse mispronounces Eve’s surname in the best way possible – Mrs Panesar Onion.

While Heather immediately bursts out laughing, Aaron does his best to apologise to the actor portraying the nurse for laughing at her mistake shortly before falling about in hysterics himself. And who could blame him? Mrs Panesar Onion? That joke’s got layers.
Posting on Instagram, Heather Peace shared a little context behind the clip. ‘A year to the day since this scene transmitted. So here’s a little blooper. Personally a super stressful time for me, the most stressful; and sometimes it’s wonderful moments like this that give us the outlet to let go. This filled me with much laughter & joy. If we’re in trouble for posting this then it was @aaronthiara_ who suggested it.’
Heather underwent surgery and chemotherapy in 2024, after being diagnosed with breast cancer. was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2024, and underwent surgery and revealed she has had surgery and chemotherapy after being diagnosed with breast cancer in 2024. ‘I’ve been on quite a road for many months now. I was diagnosed with breast cancer at the beginning of October.
‘Since then, I’ve undergone surgery and recovery over the Christmas period, and today my chemotherapy journey ended.’ She compared the end of her treatment to reaching the finish line in the London Marathon. ‘To conclude – I’ve just picked up my medal. But I’m forever changed. During this time I’ve narrowed my world.’
Fortunately, Heather made a full recovery and continues to delight our screens as one of the toughest characters on the Square.
Her character’s life hasn’t been plain sailing of late either, as her dreams of adopting a child with her wife, Suki Panesar (Balvinder Sopal), are coming under threat thanks to Ravi’s criminal lifestyle. But Eve’s tenacity and fiery personality make her more than a match for Ravi.
We salute you, Mrs Onion!
