EastEnders star Jake Wood has taken to social media to urge fans to donate to a GoFundMe page set up for his colleague.

Actor Jake, who plays Max Branning in the BBC One soap, works alongside an electrician called Connor. Jake’s co-worker was travelling in Colombia over Christmas, but suffered a devastating incident and fell from an 11-storey building.

Connor spent nine days in a coma and had multiple life-saving surgeries. His mum has said it’s a ‘miracle’ he survived.

Connor’s family are trying to raise money in order to cover his medical bills. Showing his support, Jake recently shared the GoFundMe page on his Instagram stories and said: ‘Connor one of our work colleagues, who works as an electrician on the set, has had a terrible accident over Christmas in Colombia, falling 11 floors from a roof and was in a coma for nine days.

‘It’s a miracle that he has survived. He has a family and his mum has flown out to be with him.’

Jake added: ‘Here is the link to a GoFundMe page that has been set up in his name as money is desperately needed to pay for medical bills, and to hopefully get him home.

‘He is a top man and respected by everyone here who works at the studios. Please help if you can, thank you.’

Stars from EastEnders who have donated so far include Jake, Scott Maslen, Jessie Wallace, Diane Parish, Gillian Taylforth, Emma Barton, Colin Salmon, and Adam Woodyatt.

Over £26,000 has been donated so far, with the GoFundMe goal set at £30k.

Victoria Dean, who set up the page, posted an update on January 2 about Connor’s condition.

She wrote: ‘After 9 days in a coma, he is now off of mechanical ventilation and breathing with minimal support. He remains in ICU and is still under light sedation, but is aware that Denise is there and is responding to her.

‘He was due to have another surgery today, but this has been delayed and we are hoping to get a date for next week. Thank you so much for all of your support, it really means the world to all of us. Love from Denise & family Xxxx.’

Jake Wood returned to EastEnders in December.

His character, Max Branning, arrived shortly after his son Oscar Branning (Pierre Counihan-Moullier) attempted to save Zoe Slater (Michelle Ryan) from a fire.

Max tried to tell his family that he was back to prove to them that he had changed, but he didn’t do a very good job at showing this.

On New Year’s Day, Max featured in a flashforward episode. It was set in 2027 and teased a variety of different storylines that will take place over the next year.

Plots that were hinted at included a wedding that almost certainly won’t be going ahead, Max waking up after a night with his pregnant paramour to take a phone call from his bride-to-be, a gunman, and an absolute ton of coppers.

It also hinted at a new baby, solicitation to murder, Lauren Branning’s (Jacqueline Jossa) big secret, four potential brides, the return of Denise Fox’s daughter Libby (Belinda Owusu), and Max’s ultimate choice between his two children.
