Japan – The Chinese Embassy in Japan has issued an urgent advisory to its citizens, urging them to maintain a high level of vigilance following a series of violent incidents and reports of unprovoked attacks. In a formal notice, the embassy highlighted a marked deterioration in public security across several regions, including Fukuoka, Shizuoka, and Aichi. According to state media, Chinese nationals have reportedly been subjected to verbal abuse and physical assaults, resulting in various injuries.
Of particular concern to Beijing is a serious vehicle-ramming incident that occurred in the Shinjuku district of Tokyo on New Year’s Eve, which left two Chinese citizens severely injured and requiring emergency hospitalisation. Diplomatic officials have reiterated their advice for citizens to avoid travelling to Japan in the near term. This security warning comes amidst heightened geopolitical tensions between the two nations following recent legislative and defensive policy statements from Tokyo that have drawn sharp rebukes from the Chinese government.
