First Dates: Beach Club took an ‘unsettling’ turn after one of the stars, Elle, shared a strange story involving an animal skull.
The new season, which saw the return of matchmaking maître d’hôtel Fred Sirieix, has swapped frosty England for sunny Spain in this Mediterranean version of the romance reality series.
The setting might be different, but there are no less bonkers moments for fans to experience as they watch to see if love will blossom by the sea.
In Wednesday night’s episode, Charlie, 28, and Elle, 25, went on a beachy double date with Darren and Jessie before jetting home to see if their holiday fling can turn into a lifelong love.
Sitting down for a spot of lunch for the second date, the Scottish dater started recounting a story that left the rest of the group questioning what on earth they had just heard.
Leading in with her love of taxidermy, she started: ‘Not long ago, there was a sheep that died in the field up behind mine, and I went and got the skull and boiled it.’
As she then explained to the camera in an aside: ‘Quite morbid things I’m into. It’s probably quite unsettling to people, but that’s just me.
‘I like the idea of taking something dead and kind of bringing it back to life a little bit. It’s quite a beautiful thing, I think.’
Although we can’t speak to Elle’s motivations, in the world of taxidermy, boiling a sheep’s head would help remove the dead flesh, so she likely did it so she could display the skull.
Despite the… sweet intentions, her story left Darren and Jessie doing a spit take with their champagne as they descended into laughter. Not phased at all, Elle added: ‘I went to a tattoo convention a few months ago, and they were selling human skulls. I would love one of those.’
Jessie shared her surprise at the statement, quipping: ‘Did the humans give their consent?’
Elsewhere during their chat, Elle admitted that this was ‘probably the nicest second date she’d ever been on’ although she caveated that by saying she didn’t know if she had ever been on one before.
Will you be tuning in to First Dates Beach Club?

Yes - It's a date!

No thanks, I've got another date
Although it seems like she and Charlie were the perfect match, as he quickly agreed that he never really gets to second dates either.
First Dates is all too used to their meet-ups taking unexpected turns. Earlier this year, viewers were left utterly gobsmacked when mum-of-three Sophie revealed to her date Emily that her husband was at the bar, ready to meet her.
In the end, it was revealed that the couple were exploring polyamory within their relationship and after meeting, the trio became the show’s first ever throuple date.
First Dates Beach Club airs at 9pm on Channel 4 tonight.
