A garden fence became an effective crime-fighting tool after thwarting a burglar’s desperate bid for freedom.

Daika Simmons, 23, had broken into a home, stealing the victim’s car keys, two handbags and an Alfa Romeo vehicle.

To try and evade police, he then drove the stolen car the wrong way down a dual carriageway.

Officers rammed the car, causing it to spin out of control and crash.

Thermal helicopter footage shared by the Met Police showed the burglar trying to escape into people’s houses through their gardens.
