Two European tourists arrested for RO1mn jewellery theft in Muscat

Muscat- The Muscat Governorate Police Command, in cooperation with the Directorate General of Inquiries and Criminal Investigation, has arrested two tourists of European nationalities following a report of the theft of jewellery valued at approximately RO1mn. The suspects are accused of carrying out an organised burglary at a jewellery store in Muscat Governorate.

According to police, the suspects entered the Sultanate of Oman on tourist visas and stayed at a hotel near jewellery shops in the Ghubrah area, where they surveyed the location and planned the crime. At around 4am, they allegedly broke through the rear wall of the shop using a mechanical demolition tool, stole a large quantity of jewellery, forced open a safe and took cash from inside.

Investigations led to the arrest of the suspects, the seizure of the tools used in the crime and the recovery of the stolen jewellery, which had been hidden on Al Sifah beach. The jewellery was transported by a rented boat under the pretext of going on a recreational sea trip.
