Musandam – Ministry of Agricultural, Fisheries, and Water Resources (MAFRW) has successfully concluded extensive maintenance and development works on the Wadi Khabb Dam in the Wilayat of Daba, Musandam Governorate. The comprehensive project, costing RO 247,157, was undertaken to boost the dam’s operational efficiency and readiness, ensuring its adherence to the highest technical standards.

The dam, considered a vital rockfill structure in Northern Oman, plays a crucial role in bolstering groundwater recharge and regulating surface runoff, protecting local communities and farmlands from the risks associated with valley floods. The maintenance programme was extensive, including the installation of new safety and control systems, and crucially, the removal of approximately 60,000 cm3 of sediment from the dam’s reservoir to significantly enhance its water storage capacity. Eng Youssef bin Masoud al Mandhari, Director of the Dams Department, affirmed that these strategic projects reflect the Sultanate of Oman’s ongoing commitment to developing and sustaining its water security infrastructure.
