When it comes to skincare, I like to see results – quite literally.
There’s something undeniably satisfying about watching the dirt and grime of the day being washed away.
It may sound a little gross, but seeing a formula visibly do its job is the perfect proof that it’s working.
My go-to face mask is Benefit’s POREfessional Deep Retreat Pore-Clearing Clay Mask, so when I heard the brand was launching a new de-gunking product within the same range, I was immediately interested.
Known for its powerful cleansing and clarifying formulas, the POREfessional line has earned a reputation for delivering real results – so I had high expectations.
Enter the Benefit POREfessional Degunker Blackhead & Pore Cleansing Tool, retailing for £32.50. This targeted treatment is designed to minimise the appearance of blackheads, starting with a layer of green solution formulated with kaolin clay, plum seed oil, and bisabolol to help lift and loosen surface debris. The process is finished with a clever detachable extraction tool that removes excess buildup.
With 96 percent of users claiming it effectively extracts pore-clogging debris while leaving skin looking clearer and smoother, I couldn’t resist putting it to the test.
I followed the instructions, popped on the formula for 15 minutes as the instructions advise, made a cup of tea, and let the product do its work.
Once the time had passed, the product was still wet on my face, so it didn’t dry as usual face masks do, but you simply rinse off and then reattach the extracting tool and gently glide it over the surface of the skin. Make sure the skin is constantly damp when doing this, as it reduces friction on the surface and makes it a lot easier to maneuver.
My first observation was that I didn’t see the same smoothing effect as I do when I use the Benefit’s POREfessional Deep Retreat Pore-Clearing Clay Mask; however, I’m aware this was one of the first times using the product.
Despite this, once I got to work with the extraction tool, I immediately saw surface dirt make its way onto the tool, and blackheads banish before my eyes, which is a highly addictive process.
Comparing the before and after results from the first use, you can see slight differences between them. Some blackheads have been noticeably removed, whilst others might need more work. The brand suggests that if there’s extra dirt, then leave the formula on for up to 30 minutes.
Overall, I was impressed with the results of seeing the dirt be removed, and after a few applications, the appearance of blackheads did reduce further. Use the product 1-2 times a week in the evening during your nighttime skin routine.
Fellow fans have shared their reviews, as one shared: ‘Omg I didn’t know I needed this until I tried it. So helpful and really gets all that gunk out. The product is amazing quality too and very sturdy. I will use this now to remove black heads and white heads. Love the packaging too.’
‘The Professional Degunker cleans my skin really well without drying it out. It removes makeup and impurities easily, leaves my face feeling fresh and smooth. Simple, effective, and a great addition to my routine,’ said another.
Whilst a third followed with ‘This is a must have in your daily routine. Before I started using this my pores were bad and black heads and whiteheads and breakouts were terrible. Just after the first time using it, I could tell a huge difference and after a month using it, it has cleared my face all the way up.’
