H M Sultan Haitham confers Oman Civil Order on UN Secy-Gen

Muscat – His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik conferred the Oman Civil Order (First Class) on António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations (UN), during a ceremony at Al Barakah Palace on Monday.

The honour was conferred in recognition of the UN chief’s distinguished diplomatic and political role, as well as his sustained efforts in supporting conflict resolution and advancing international peace and security.

Guterres expressed his sincere appreciation for the honour. He also commended Oman’s constructive and wise diplomatic efforts in backing dialogue and mediation, as well as its contribution to conflict resolution regionally and internationally with a spirit of responsibility and cooperation. 

He underscored the importance of continued partnership with the sultanate in an effort to serve stability and peace internationally.

The meeting was attended by Sayyid Badr bin Hamad al Busaidi, Foreign Minister, Dr Hamad bin Said al Aufi, Head of the Private Office, Hussain bin Ali Abdullatif, Advisor at the Private Office, Gilles Michaud, UN Undersecretary-General for Safety and Security, and Hans Grundberg, UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy to Yemen.
