Child predator Megan Walsh (Beth Nixon) has already dug her claws into underage schoolboy Will Driscoll (Lucas Hodgson-Wale) in Coronation Street. Now she’s got her eyes on a fresh target…

The manipulations of this seemingly friendly athletics coach know no bounds. Abusing her position to get Will alone during ‘one-on-one’ training sessions, she’s manipulated and gaslit the poor lad into believing he’s in a loving relationship with a sexy older woman – but the truth is, Megan is all about control.

Everything is on her terms, Will is forced to sneak around in secret and lie to his dad Ben Driscoll (Aaron McCusker) and stepmum Eva Price (Catherine Tyldesley) about where he’s been.

In her most blatant display of power yet, Megan has started dating headmaster Daniel Osborne (Rob Mallard) after he landed her a job at the school. This gives the insidious abuser the perfect cover so nobody will ever suspect her of preying on Will, with the added bonus of driving the boy wild with jealousy.

This worked too well when Will brutally attacked Daniel from behind in a jealous rage on Boxing Day and left him for dead. The only witness? Will’s grandmother, the formidable Maggie Driscoll (Pauline McLynn).

While Will was able to lie about why he attacked Daniel, it was clear that the youngest Driscoll had been pushed to the edge by Megan’s head games.

He’s already vandalised Ken Barlow (William Roache’s) car with a rude symbol just because Daniel was about to drive it to work. It’s clear Megan can’t keep a lid on Will’s jealousy forever… and that’s not even her only problem.

Next week’s episodes will see Megan’s sinister secret brought to light when a mysterious face from her past arrives on the Cobbles with an unsettling connection to Will.

On the street, Megan explains to Will that she’s going away for a while.  Clearly worried, Will enquires if she’s ill. This isn’t a question Megan is keen to answer… especially after Daniel found a pregnancy test in her bag.

Given the fact she recently took Will’s virginity on his sixteenth birthday, there’s a fifty/fifty chance this baby could be his – if she is pregnant. What will Megan say. what will she say?

In hospital, worried Will sits in A&E with Megan, who is feeling unwell… unaware that Eva has just called an ambulance for Ben for his increasingly heart palpitations. Are Megan and Will about to be rumbled?

Outside the school, Will implores Megan to dump Daniel as it’s killing him seeing the together. Megan promises to do what she can. But over dinner in the bistro, Daniel apologises to Megan for coming on too strong but insist that he can’t help the way he feels about her.

When Daniel suggests she should report Will to Mrs Crawshaw for harassment, Megan dismisses it as nothing more than a schoolboy crush and quickly changes the subject.

But Megan’s about to have bigger problems.

Just as Will believes that Megan is losing interest, he strikes up a conversation with fellow athlete Lee, who reminds him that they used to race against each other in Hull. When Will is distracted Lee calls Megan. What does he want?

After the race, Will takes Lee back to the pub with him… and Megan is not to pleased to see Lee. She asks Lee to meet her in the ginnel. What is their connection?

It seems as if Lee might be one of Megan’s previous victims. The newcomer’s Lee’s imminent arrival was teased in Monday’s episode (January 12th), which sparked speculation about Will not being the first minor that the paedophile has groomed. When Megan prepared for a cosy night in with Daniel, she was visibly rattled to receive a phone call from an unknown number.

“I thought I told you not to call me again,” Megan vented to the caller. “Of course I meant it. Please, will you just let it go?”

When the caller protested further, she replied: “No, that wouldn’t be a good idea for either of us – you just leave me alone, okay?”

Is this ghost from Megan’s past the key to bringing her down?
