We know that Ray Walters (Joe Absolom) is dead, but how, when, where, and who are the questions on our minds. Enter Emmerdale’s latest whodunnit, as a flashback sequence reveals all.

Ray is now the most abhorred man in Emmerdale after his criminal activity came to light. And there are many, many people who would like to see him suffer for his crimes.

Laurel Thomas (Charlotte Bellamy), who was utterly betrayed by the man she fell in love with. Rhona Goskirk (Zoe Henry), who got herself in far too deep in trying to rid the family of Ray – paying him 20 grand she didn’t have an destroying her relationship with her mother in the process.

Paddy Kirk (Dominic Brunt) will have a pretty solid motive when he learns that his dad was kept as a slave and killed by Celia Daniels (Jaye Griffiths). Ross Barton (Mike Parr) will be seen arming himself with a gun just prior to Ray turning up dead.

And Marlon, dear, sweet, terrified Marlon, whose fear of losing his little girl and anger at her being forced into drug dealing and nearly prostitution could well drive him to kill the bad man.

Which one of them did it is the question, but it seems like it may not be long before they’re caught thanks to a silly slip up. Go easy on them, they’re newbies at this murder malarkey.

The flashback lands on the day Ray murdered Celia, he stands staring at his mother’s body with the knife in her back. He carefully wipes his fingerprints clean, then grabs his bag and scarpers. He tries to look in on Bear Wolf’s (Joshua Richards) dead body, but he can’t bring himself to do it.

He heads back into the village, where he comes across Paddy. He floors Paddy by revealing that there’s no point in looking for Bear, his dad is dead.

An Emmerdale promo of Paddy Kirk, Rhona Goskirk, Marlon Dingle, Laurel Thomas and Ross Barton, each staring ahead, over a faded background of Ray Walters.

Marlon is seen arming himself with a knife, Ross separately grabs a gun, and Paddy now has enough seething with revenge and wants a hand in Ray’s demise.

Whoever does the deed bundles Ray’s body into a Depot van until it can be properly disposed of.

But the killer makes a huge error in doing this. They hadn’t banked on Jai jumping behind the wheel and driving off with his decomposing cargo.

Jai has no idea what’s in the back, but when it’s discovered, he becomes an instant suspect after the police learn he had motive. Will Ray’s real killer ever be found?
