Warning: Contains spoilers for the Beyond Paradise Christmas special.

The 2025 Christmas special episode of a BBC spin-off series has left viewers ‘crying their eyes out’ and demanding a primetime slot in 2026.

Beyond Paradise, the spin-off from the long-running detective series Death In Paradise, started in 2022 and has since been on air for three seasons.

The series follows Kris Marshall’s Detective Inspector Humphrey Goodman after he decides to step away from sleuthing duties in Saint Marie in the original series.

With Humphrey now engaged to Martha Lloyd (Sally Bretton), the couple has moved to Devon, and Humphrey is now solving crimes in the West Country.

The Christmas special for 2025, which was broadcast on Sunday December 21, took place on the day of Humphrey and Martha’s wedding.

When is the new season of Beyond Paradise coming out?

Following the Beyond Paradise Christmas special, a fourth season of the show will be making its way to the BBC in due course.

It was confirmed in July this year that the fourth outing was being filmed.

‘We’re back in Shipton Abbott! Filming has begun this week on the brand-new series of #BeyondParadise,’ a social post from the show’s official Instagram profile read.

‘Expect plenty of puzzling twists and turns as the team gear up for another series full of mystery, humour, and heart on the sunny shores of Devon and Cornwall.’

An official release date for Beyond Paradise season four is yet to be confirmed.

At the same time, a mute man named David (Ade Edmondson) turns up on the steps of the police station carrying a photo of Humphrey.

As Humphrey and Martha’s wedding gets closer and closer, it transpires that David is actually searching for his sister, whom he was separated from more than 50 years ago.

The emotional reunion of the long-lost siblings left many viewers in tears, prompting some to demand that the programme be given a more prominent slot in the TV schedule, considering the festive special aired several days before Christmas.

An X called @TonyChalcroft said: ‘Just finished watching Beyond Paradise – a nice harmless Christmas show with a great outcome.

‘Question: Why didn’t the BBC schedule this for Christmas evening rather than Eastenders, Mrs Browns Boys and yet even more celebrities?’

Another fan called @kevwgs concurred: ‘Beyond Paradise doesn’t get the credit it deserves. Brilliantly written, brilliantly cast, brilliantly acted.’

One person going by the handle @LB130 seemed to be the most upset of all: ‘Beyond Paradise – what have you done to me? I am a 49-year-old man and I’m crying my eyes out! That is how you do a Christmas episode.’

The Beyond Paradise festive special also saw Death In Paradise favourite Selwyn Patterson (Don Warrington) make an unexpected appearance.

The fan continued: ‘[Beyond Paradise was] emotional, funny, heartfelt. Selwyn! Absolutely fantastic and Ade Edmondson is a national treasure.’

A fourth season of Beyond Paradise is currently in production, with things really ramping up during the summer as the show’s team descended on Cornwall to continue filming.

The series is primarily shot in the coastal town of Looe, as well as other locations in picturesque Devon, which might not be Guadeloupe (which is what Saint Marie stands in for in Death In Paradise) but is still home.
