Carl Webster (Jonathan Howard) faced heartbreak in tonight’s Coronation Street, as news of a death reached the cobbles.
It came amid a tense time between Carl and brother Kevin Webster (Michael Le Vell), who had both been invited to Ronnie Bailey’s (Vinta Morgan) stag do.
Ronnie is set to marry Debbie Webster (Sue Devaney) in the new year, meaning that he is soon set to be another member of the Webster clan.
Things have been difficult between Kevin and Carl ever since Kev discovered that Carl had been having an affair with his wife, Abi Webster (Sally Carman).
When Kevin arrived at the stag do and realised that Carl was also in attendance, he stormed out, leaving the atmosphere sour.
Unfortunately, things were only set to get worse from there, when Carl got a call that would change everything.
After meeting Abi back at the flat, Carl revealed that he’d had news that his mother had died from cancer.
He was inconsolable as he admitted that he’d had no idea she was even ill, as she hadn’t made any effort to contact him prior to her death.
However, that would later turn out to be false.
When Debbie paid Carl a visit, she was gutted to learn of his mother’s passing, and made out that she hadn’t heard from her since their dad died.
However, at home with Ronnie later that evening, Debbie admitted that Carl’s mum had reached out to her, hoping to get in contact with her son, but that Debbie had forgotten to pass the message on.
Viewers will know that Debbie was diagnosed with young-onset dementia earlier this year, and has been finding it increasingly harder to remember things.
Because of this, Ronnie revealed to his stags this evening that he had set up a meeting with their solicitor to discuss becoming Debbie’s power of attorney, which would leave him in control of her finances and such.
This came as a shock to Carl, who has been taking advantage of Debbie’s condition to access her company accounts.
Unaware of her brother’s betrayal, Debbie felt terrible about forgetting to tell Carl his mother had been in touch, and made Ronnie promise not to tell him.
Will Carl remain in the dark, or could the truth be set to come out in dramatic fashion?
